3 Strike Eggmons begin the Legendary Gauntlet win streak [Pokemon Masters EX]

0:00 – Vs. Entei: Strike Egg Squirtle / EX SS Blue / BP Morty
4:00 – Vs. Cobalion: Strike Egg Magmar / EX Sabrina / Calem
7:54 – Vs. Azelf: Strike Egg Scyther / EX Elio / Event Bugsy

Eggmons have never had a bigger spotlight shone on them than when the Legendary Gauntlet was detailed. The mode is less about being able to clear the stages and more about being able to build teams efficiently, and eggmons were seen as the way for teams to fill in gaps and save more impactful units for other teams. Why use Acerola as a flinchbot for Entei’s stage when you can use Tech Farfetch’d instead and save Acerola for a Sandstorm team?

Most of the conversation has revolved around tech eggmons and their utility, with some also bringing up support eggmons and their useful buffs. I wanted to do the same strategy with my first three win streaks, but with a small twist – I use three on-type strike eggmons backed by three great supports and three good utility units. These clears weren’t easy because of the strike eggmons’ frailty and the sure-crit moves of the opponents, but they get the job done.

All three of the strike eggmons here are at 4-star potential, 3/3 0/20 affinity (except for Scyther which I believe is at 20/20 affinity), 5/5 move level, and have Critical Strike 1 as a lucky skill.

Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:

Vs. Entei: Strike Egg Squirtle / EX SS Blue / BP Morty – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10148000001&e1=0&o1=750&g1=AAECAwQFBggSExQVGBocHiEkJiks&s1=3&id2=18000040007&e2=60&o2=0&g2=&s2=5&id3=10021010000&e3=1&o3=738&g3=AAECAwQFBhMUFiYoKi0zNDU=&s3=3

I was originally running this with SS Elesa as the support, but BP Morty was too frail to tank the whole stage, and all the healing he had to do detracted from his main job of getting flinches. So I switched her out for SS Blue, who of course can carry pretty much any unit to victory. In this case, that unit is Strike Egg Squirtle, which is actually pretty good among eggmons with its Piercing Gaze Hydro Pump. The biggest problem in bringing eggmons to this stage is Entei buffing itself up to +3 crit by the halfway mark of the second HP bar, so that’s where you really need to get those flinches to land.

Vs. Cobalion: Strike Egg Magmar / EX Sabrina / Calem – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10003000000&e1=1&o1=738&g1=AAECAwQFExQXHh8gIyYnKCkr&s1=2&id2=18000040461&e2=60&o2=0&g2=&s2=5&id3=10114000000&e3=1&o3=738&g3=AAECAwQFBhETFBYZGhscHSUoKSw=&s3=5

Cobalion is a bit more forgiving tank-wise since almost all of its moves are physical, unlike Entei and Azelf who switch between the two offenses. That makes Sabrina a good tank for this stage with her Reflect, and her trainer move just so happens to be what Egg Magmar needs to go to town with Overheat. I brought Calem as the paralysis inducer mainly to activate theme skills, but he also reduces Sp. Atk with Thunder Wave to weaken Cobalion’s Swifts. He’s also one of the few paralyses inducers with self-heals, which means Sabrina doesn’t have to use Sixth Sense on him. I was really lucky with the paralysis procs in this stage, but I guess it makes sense since the lessen passive is quite low.

Vs. Azelf: Strike Egg Scyther / EX Elio / Event Bugsy – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10122000000&e1=1&o1=738&g1=AAECAwQFBggKDQ4aHB4gIyQlKA==&s1=5&id2=18000040011&e2=60&o2=0&g2=&s2=5&id3=10045900000&e3=0&o3=750&g3=AAECAwQFExYaHB4hIiQmKSw=&s3=5

DId you see SnipSnip’s numbers at the end? That’s a top-tier striker right there hahaha. Egg Scyther joins Lusamine as a rare Bug-type striker that has both physical and special moves, making it perfect for this stage. Azelf is one of the few legendary arenas where sleep chaining is actually very effective (moreso than Cobalion, which was literally made with Serena in mind haha), so Elio is one of the best supports to bring here. Event Bugsy completes SnipSnip’s offensive buffs and makes his Slashes and sync move stronger with Leer. You’ll notice that this run was a bit messier than the others since this is literally my first attempt at this stage – I was just running it to refamiliarize myself with the stage, but SnipSnip was out for blood haha.
