Understandably, many people aren’t gonna go for Bede considering that the Johto Master Fairs have put a sizable dent in many gem stashes. The posts I see online of people going for him are those who are pulling him because they like the character – and then there’s me, the rival fanatic haha.
While I did want to do this unit spotlight for those who’ve decided to skip him, a bigger reason was how I wanted to highlight just how jam-packed his kit is. I know that many are annoyed that he’s yet another Poke Fair, but I think it’s fair to say that his kit is way too diverse for a regular spotlight scout. He’s in the same vein as Anni Raihan and Classic Elesa for me – which are my favorite kind of units.
Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:

I was already pretty fine with Bede’s kit from a Tech perspective. Guaranteed Sp Atk + Sp Def debuffs were juicy, especially with an AOE move, and he also has AOE confusion with Gobsmack 4. But DeNA decided to give him a hilarious base multiplier in Baffle Buff 9, which pumps up Bede’s damage when the target is confused. That makes off-type clears possible, so I decided to do so here with some F2P supports. Roxanne tanks for the team as she completes Bede’s offensive buffs and gives defensive buffs, while BP Morty provided flinches, heals, and backup confusion.

So if everything I said above wasn’t enough, Bede can also set two field effects in Sun and Psychic Terrain. Granted, he’s a lot less reliable than the other setters as he can only do so once. He sets up sun here to support SS Red, who uses it for his sync nuke, while Lillie gives Attack buffs and sure crit. I guess I should’ve reset until I set up that max move properly so that it would crit, but this still gets the point across. And anyway, there’s the next clear…

This demonstrates the power of Bede’s max move much better than the previous clear. And the resulting field effect can bump up a teammate’s damage, which would (ideally) already be bumped up by Bede’s debuffs. Will is that teammate here, and he also appreciates the confusion for his multipliers. SC Jasmine gives all the needed buffs here so that both Bede and Will can wreck havoc.

Karen’s a big winner with Bede’s addition, as she has multipliers for several of his kit – Overpower for the Sp Atk debuffs, Foul FIghting 5 for the confusion, and of course the general damage boost from the Sp Def debuffs. I brought BP Surge here to activate her Dirty Fighting 5 so that she does even more respectable damage.

The Galar rival trio is finally complete! Wanted to do this clear to celebrate, even if Bede doesn’t really have synergy with Hop or Marnie. Part of me wants to say DeNa intended this considering their dynamic, but that’s just me being my usual overthinking self haha.
