Hori Split Pad Fit Initial Impressions

I recently got the Hori Split Pad Fit, and like the regular Split Pad Pros, these only work connected to the Switch and lack Gyro and Rumble. Here are my initial impressions after playing with them for a couple of hours:

1. The home, assign, plus and minus, and turbo buttons feel way more responsive and not mushy.

2. There’s zero rattle if you shake the controller.

3. The shoulder and back buttons feel more solid. Also, in a regular playing position, you barely notice the back buttons. I found them slightly annoying on the regular ones.

4. I tested the sticks with some kaizo and super expert levels in Mario Maker 2 and they are fantastic, giving me great control for shell tricks.

5. D-pad feels fine, tested it with a multiple shell jump level and didn’t get up-butonned once.

6. X,Y,A,B are way more responsive and great for controlled, small jumps. I noticed that the regular split pad missed some jumps on a repeated rhythmic jump test I did to compare.

7. Overall, they feel better built.

Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

Here’s an update with Pros and Cons:

Pros:
1. Stick and overall button feel is better. Sitcks also have a texture, giving them more grip.
2. Slightly better build quality, they don’t feel as hollow and don’t rattle as the regular split pad pros. Although, plastic quality is pretty much the same.
3. There are no rubber buttons on this one, and as someone that spams the + button I mario maker, I love how it feels now.
4. Switch doesn’t feel like the Frankenstein Monster with monstrous limbs and actually feel like they belong to it.

Possible Cons:
1. When it comes to comfort, I might me somewhat of a freak. I prefer the regular joycons over the Satisfye and Split Pad Pros. I enjoy the smaller, compact feel of the joycons, including its tiny sticks. The Split Pad Fit are like an in-between of the Split Pad Pros and joycons. Rocking the smaller sticks and the somewhat 90 degree angle of the joycons when it comes to gripping them. However, they have a curvature on the back that you can grab with your fingers, which the joycons don’t have. Other details of my controller preferences that you may find useful is that I consider the Pro Controller to be miles ahead of the DualSense in terms of comfort and button feel, and slightly more comfortable than the Series X controller. Hopefully, with this information you can conclude if these will be good for you in terms of comfort.

Cons:
1. Since the buttons are now closer to the sticks, you may find the right stick to get in the way when pressing the Y + B buttons like with the regular joycons, very noticeable when playing games like Cuphead or if you play Mario Maker with Y+B. In the Regular Pros, they’re more separated.
2. No Gyro, Rumble, and other features that the regular joycons have.

In conclusion, if you’re perfectly happy with the Split Pad Pros, then I wouldn’t recommend these. However, if you’re looking for something more compact and smaller like I was, then these are a great option.
