Switch undock behavior different between regions?

According to a [recent YouTube video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB8Gl_YUgdQ), a player was disconnected in the recent Pokémon World Championships because they undocked their system in the middle of the match. The system in question is a US (or EU) system, and US/EU systems automatically disconnect from the network when undocked; JP systems, on the other hand, do not. The player was more used to JP systems, so they didn’t expect this to happen when they undocked it.

Problem is, I don’t buy this explanation. As far as I know, there’s only two software-enforced regions: “all” and “China” (Tencent). I don’t see why Nintendo would forcefully close network connections when undocking if it detects the console’s serial number is “worldwide” versus a Japanese-specific serial number.

What I’m thinking is more likely is the console in question was connected to the network via Ethernet, in which case, undocking *does* result in a disconnect because the adapter completely disappears. I don’t have enough information to verify this, though.

Am I missing something with the original reasoning of “undock behavior differs between regions”?

  1. I believe there are zero hardware variation between regions, except for regulatory markings and serial number stickers.

This person just isn’t used to Ethernet adapters on the Switch.

In my experience, Wireless Connections don’t disconnect when I take my Switch from the dock. The player must have been using Ethernet.

  3. I looked up a video from when it happened, and the commentators stated they were using a wired connection. There didn’t seem to be a noticeable movement of the Switch to attempt to ‘undock’ it either.

He was using a Switch Lite, and Worlds was using Hori stands instead of docks, meaning he had to be using the system as it was sitting in the Hori stand.

I wonder if the stand was somehow looser than he was used to. I’ve had a charger that constantly seems to disconnect/reconnect every now and again, and another one that always works fine.

    No, it’s not.

Tencent Switch can play any game cartridges, and vice versa. Only the system software is locked, Only tencent switch can only access tencent eshop, and tencent eshop only.

In this case I think it’s more likely to be the ethernet, but no official explanation. I watched this case on the livestream and immediately I think it’s the ethernet undock.
