Wally brings 8 of his Pokemon to Unova Champion Stadium (Week 109) [Pokemon Masters EX]

0:00 – Vs. Shauntal: Cynthia / EX Anniversary Raihan / Nita
2:12 – Vs. Marshal: EX SS Wally / EX Diantha / EX SC Jasmine
3:26 – Vs. Grimsley: Gardenia / EX Brendan / EX SS Morty
5:47 – Vs. Caitlin: Lisia / BP Clemont / EX Sidney
8:07 – Vs. Iris: EX Wally / Tech Magneton / Hop

To my absolute delight, the current Daily Battle event features five distinct battles from Wally, where he uses a different Pokemon for each of them. All of these Pokemon are ones he has on his team in the main series, and I’m honestly floored that they gave him an Ash-like event – you know, Wally, the guy who hasn’t even shown up in the anime? He absolutely deserves this spotlight though.

So of course, I wanted to make a CSMM team out of it, and I initially just added Magneton to the mix to make it six Pokemon across eight trainers. But then I went to Wally’s Bulbapedia page and saw two other Pokemon from his manga counterpart that I could add to the pool, and it would give me a nice round number of 10 trainers to work with.

Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:

Vs. Shauntal: Cynthia / EX Anniversary Raihan / Nita – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=025701033000&s0=3&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=18046402&t0=44111&g0=AAECAwQFERMWHB4hIyUmJyor&v1=009100044500&s1=3&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=44114&g1=AAECAwQFERQXGBseICMkMDEyMw&v2=020400064500&s2=1&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=18040702&t2=41441&g2=AAECAwQFBgcICQoMERITFBobHB0eICUmJyg

Wally uses a Flygon in the manga, so I figured I’d run both of his Ground/Dragon types together, and Cynthia just so happens to appreciate Anni Raihan’s Sandstorm. Nita completes the team for the fast buffs and the master passive to boost Cynthia’s damage even more.

Vs. Marshal: EX SS Wally / EX Diantha / EX SC Jasmine – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=015800028200&s0=3&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=13010602&t0=44411&g0=AAECAwQFBgkMDxEUFxkaGy4v&v1=012801028202&s1=4&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=15010301&t1=44444&g1=AAECAwQFDA0PGRwdHyApKisvMDM&v2=011301079700&s2=5&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=18046402&t2=44111&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDhATFhkmKSs

Double Head Start 1 + half-sync countdown parameter = syncing at the end of Turn 1 haha. I brought SC Jasmine instead of Torchic thinking that she’ll be able to live more hits but alas.

Vs. Grimsley: Gardenia / EX Brendan / EX SS Morty – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=001900025400&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=18020301&t0=44444&g0=AAECAwQFBgkLDA0QHiElKCot&v1=002700040700&s1=5&l1=140&r1=4&p1=0&a1=13016303&t1=44111&g1=AAECAwQFBgcJFBcZGhsfIi4v&v2=014802025001&s2=3&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=21010101&t2=44411&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDhMaHB4fIiUmKSw

Permanent sun made this possible, as even Grimsley’s inflated HP folds to double Leaf Storm spam. It’s anchored by SS Morty, who has a much easier time tanking thanks to the infinite sun. You don’t know how happy I was when I saw that Wally had a Grovyle instead of a Sceptile in the manga – I can’t believe I have another theme that justifies me not evolving him haha.

Vs. Caitlin: Lisia / BP Clemont / EX Sidney – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=021500033400&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=13010602&t0=4411&g0=AAECAwQFBgcKDQ8SFBUWGB0fIg&v1=013500035900&s1=5&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=4444&g1=AAECAwQFBggLDhUYIyUpKywtLw&v2=013100008200&s2=3&l2=140&r2=4&p2=0&a2=17041601&t2=44411&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDhocHR4hJCYoKi0

Was trying this with BP Karen, but even with BP Clemont’s help I was still doing too little damage. So I just shrugged and went with Sidney instead, who of course makes short work of this stage. Lisia is honestly filler but she does let me skip out on the Gradual Healing option.

Vs. Iris: EX Wally / Tech Magneton / Hop – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=008240&s0=1&l0=140&r0=1&p0=0&a0=18040802&t0=41&n0=1&f0=0&v1=012800047500&s1=5&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=44444&g1=AAECAwQFExQVFhgZGhwdHyAiJC8&v2=024400088901&s2=5&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=21010101&t2=44444&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDRAaHB4hJCYoKy0

Magnezone when DeNA? Figured I’d bring Hop as the Attack buffer this time around to activate the type skill with BzztBzzt. Thanks to Screech Wally’s sync nuke does pretty good damage.

  1. Now this is a fun challenge idea you came up with!

Also, reading your description gave me gaslighting pain when I once visited a bulbapedia page with Wally and one category was 'In the Anime' and the contents of the category was just blank. Funny but painful nonetheless.

  2. I think next month’s daily battle will be for Colress, given that next month will likely be Unova VA, which I am super excited for!

  3. Oh wow, your mentioning Wally in the manga reminded me of how heartbroken I feel when Wally didn't become one of the main characters and the Hoenn Pokedex Holder of the manga, especially in Emerald arc. Don't get me wrong, I like Emerald (the original character in the Emerald arc and one of the Hoenn Pokedex Holders alongside Ruby and Sapphire), but I still feel somewhat bitter that despite all the efforts, Wally ended up getting sidelined again. He's got green hair matching Emerald theming and the Grass-type starter too, it should have been him… The manga was still a lot of fun to read, though. At least Wally has Grovyle there, which is definitely great (I'm a big fan of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon too)!

Also, I like how you played "Battle: Region's Best!" on Iris' stage, and how Wally is the last one standing too. It's very fitting somehow.

  4. I feel bad for Emerald’s Sceptile in the manga, first it got caught in a flood caused by Kyogre while in possession of Prof. Birch, then got separated from Wally when Rayquaza was awakened, and was forced to become a Battle Factory Pokémon before being finally reuniting with his true trainer

These trainer or team themes are pretty interesting, I hope you keep doing them!

  5. Do you ever think you could run a dragon weak stage (in the future) with Sableye, Dusknoir, and Dialga? 😉

  6. should I EX Sidney?

he’s at 3/5, but i’m holding off on EXing him, mainly until his battle theme is in the jukebox
