Not a bad review. But not a single mention about the soundtrack. I’m expecting great things in that regard.
Sounds like a solid game, though. Glad I preordered it. Now there’s just that pesky matter of having to go to work first

Better than expected/usual sonic scores

Pretty average score for a Sonic game. The last 3D sonic game to score over a 79 on metacritic was Sonic Adventure 2.

Yeah, game’s pretty alright, though at face value it’s more of a stepping stone to a better game in the future.
But that performance and the terrible draw distance is downright atrocious. It’s pretty telling that the Switch version of the game was used as a baseline for all platforms, but the tech just doesn’t scale up.

Been watching a lot of gameplay of the switch version and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well the game seems to run on switch. I hope everyone who gets it has fun with it

I’m really trying to wait for the first price drop. Also, I’m not sure what console to play it on. I see at least the PS5 has horrendous Switch-level pop-in so I may go for the Switch version.

Probably picking up when it is on sale

A little something for everyone

Honestly, I want more out of a Sonic game.
In the 90s, those platformers rivaled Mario, and IMO, Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the best 2D platformer of that era (DKC 2 a very close 2nd though).
This is the franchise that broke Nintendo’s dominance on the video game industry, and the franchise that in terms of media popularity was Pokemon before Pokemon. It should be better than a 7/10.

I’m just gonna say it: sonic games have a reverse bias where reviewers nowadays just assume that the game is bad and therefore are not even willing to consider anything more than an 8/10.
The game is good! It’s far from perfect, but it’s such a welcome bite of fresh air, looks good and plays solidly. Legends Arceus, a similarly flawed but fresh game, got way more positive reception uniquely because of franchise bias IMHO.

Look, a 7/10 review from IGN. What a surprise.

It seems the youtubers I follow are saying this is actually a pretty fun game. I am looking forward to try it when I get the chance!
