The switch port of Touhou 17.5 just dropped on the e-shop earlier today with very little fanfare. The trailer’s in Japanese but the game is fully translated into English making this the second Touhou game to get a official western release.
Pick from 7 playable characters with their own unique move sets and gimmicks and fight your way through a gauntlet of bosses as you investigate the source of the mysterious black water that has been seeping up from the depths of Old Hell.
The Switch version adds a new playable character with her own route and a new final boss as well as a challenge mode where you use items to augment your character’s abilities while taking on various challenges.
I’ve been a long time Touhou fan and I didn’t even realize this port was coming until a few days ago. Barely seen anyone talk about either, so has anyone here picked it up? I’m having a lot of fun with it and the English translations actually pretty good compared to Antinomy of Common Flowers.

Looks interesting! But what kind of game is it? Is it platforming or 2D fighting? I can’t tell if it looks like levels or stages…
I have yet to play any flagships beyond the first (which still seems to stand out as a pretty unique breakout/bullethell blend – oh, to live to see a remake thereof one day!) but I welcome as many of them on Switch as we can possibly get.
Wouldn’t it be much simplier if a dev like Aksys Games would port, localise and compile all 31 Touhou games into a single physical package?
With all due respect, it’s baffling that in late 2022, one must still go to the official Japanese site to download or wait for an unofficial English patch on Steam to play those games. You would think that by now, ZUN would have loosened up his own rules (*draconic as those are*), let someone else take care of the console versions and actually catch up with the times. On a sidenote, none of the Touhou games are available on the Epic Games store either.
That’s just the 2nd Touhou spin-off we get on Switch… and we’re still missing any of the main bullet hell games. Unconnected Marketeers (*the latest one*) was released on Steam in May 2021, and AFAIK, there’s no plan for a console port. Last time I checked, the Nintendo Wii could handle bullet hell shmups, so if it was the case, so could the Switch.
Antinomy of Common Flowers took “THREE years to port” from Steam to consoles, which considering the indie quality, doesn’t seem normal. It was also surprising that this game released just a few days before a Nintendo Indie World Direct… and ZUN didn’t attend to present that game, when it was his first Switch game.
BTW, I say for Switch, but the same applies to PS and XB too.
(Sorry for the rant)
Yay!
So is this like Hisoutensoku but just the boss fights?
