Is this because there are more purified than there are shadow pokemon? If so, either you had a few purified pokemon before the shadow/purified dexes were added, or you purified a first stage pokemon and evolved it, thus getting more registered purified pokemon than shadows.

My shadow dex has had a single hole for ages at this point because they won’t bring back shadow Pineco. It’s the only thing I neglected to evolve when it was last available. I’ve got the purified dex complete to date at least.

My only guess is an evolution after purification that you didn’t have a shadow of already.

After like 50 purifys you get like 2 more balls to catch shadow pokes which can be the dif from catching and not. But only purify stuff that cost 1k
