Wasn’t even a Zelda fan before I tried out this game, but after hearing Dragon Roost Island, I knew I had to play it. Luckily I got it for free with MK8 and I absolutely loved it.

a top 3, if not the top, Zelda game of all-time and worth a playthrough if you haven’t already

Put the HD remaster on switch nintendo!

The best soundtrack of the series to me

Outset Island, The Great Sea, Dragon Roost Island, the Ganondorf fight…but most importantly, (in my opinion the greatest piece of music written for Zelda), the end credits theme.

A good case study as to why artstyle matters more than graphics. It has aged so gracefully.

Why the f*** is this not in switch yet?!

Unreal the flak this got when it was revealed. I thought it was gorgeous but boy people were livid. What an amazing game. #2 Zelda in my book.

  8. Man I really need to dig out the old GameCube. I wish I had a wavebird tho so I could play from the couch.

I would pay anything for a Wind Waker, Minish Cap, Between Worlds compilation like they did for Mario.

I remember playing the demo at Circuit City and how fun it was to go through the first dungeon (until the time ran out). This game was such an immersive experience, one of many spectacular adventures offered on the Cube.

Going underwater to the Temple of Time was one of the hypest moments of the game.

I went to see the Zelda symphony a few years back and when the conductor pulled out a replica Wind Waker to conduct the Wind Waker movement, the whole crowd lost their collective shit; it was amazing.

I literally would come home from work, pour a glass of wine and just sail! Before walking simulators became a thing this was actual therapy 💚

Never played the N64 games growing up before this one because I grew up thinking they were too mature for me for some reason (born in ’92). In 5th grade my friend brought in the strategy guide of this game and I immediately had to have the game. Since then Zelda has always been in my favorite series. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years.

If you really think about it, WW was the first open world Zelda.

I was at first disappointed when I heard about the game’s graphics, like everyone else. Nonetheless, my sibling and I still waited for the game to come out.

I experienced the first commercial in the movie theater for HPATCOS. Unfortunately, whoever was running things only had the audio running and not the video. I thought it was a Zelda movie being advertised, and I was disappointed that I couldn’t see what was on the screen.

We’d pre-ordered the game and got the special OOT/Master Quest game for the GameCube, which was fun and challenging. Once the game came out, we had a lot of fun with it, too, especially when I was able to use the Tingle Tuner.

I’ve replayed it many times since, and I was eventually able to 100% it, even clearing the hardest sidequest (which can actually be done without needing the 2nd quest). Now, I find myself fond of this version of Link and have many good memories with him.

Still my favorite Zelda game to this day. It’s what made me a Zelda fan so long ago.

The bright art style, the dungeons, the exploration, the music (still my favorite soundtrack), the story…I love all of it.

Wind Waker is still my favorite Zelda game to date. I was one of the few people who wasn’t disappointed by its cell shaded look.

And yet it’s still not on the Switch.

    ***Sadface***.

Would be a GREAT time for a Switch remaster! Please Nintendo?!?

I’ve never gotten very far in this game. The inverted controls always turned me off, and just never gave it much of a try. I had the HD version on Wii U, but again, never got past the fortress level after leaving the start.

I recently started with my GameCube with Better Wind Waker, a slight mod that can be tweaked to your liking, allowing inverted controls without having to force them in Swiss, as well as the same Swift Sail from the HD version that I’ve read makes the sailing portions a lot better.

Started to give it a play today, and I’m back at the fortress. Looking forward to giving it another try and hopefully get further and enjoy the game that so many love.

If anyones got a GameCube that can play ISOs, here’s a link to the Better Wind Waker tool, just load it on PC and choose the options you want, then load your ISO and create the new one. It should also be playable on Dolphin on PC.

I’m currently playing on my GameCube with a Carby attached at 480p on my projector and it’s pretty great so far.

I’m currently playing through this, what must be my fourth playthrough now in 20 years (!) Thats two playthroughs on the Gamecube and two on the Wii U. And I’l playthrough it again when the switch version drops, or if its whatever console Nintendo launches after.

What a game. I do remember at launch the fuss about the graphics, it didnt make sense to me as I immediately found it incredible to look at. What I found more jarring was that Link never turned into adult Link, which is what I expected after OoT.

  22. negrote1000

Oh yes. I remember when people hated it and called it the worst thing ever

  23. What are you talking about ?!? It came out just a few… years.. ago…

    Oh…

  24. emf3rd31495

Best Zelda game hands down in my opinion. I’d kill for a Switch port of the Wii U version, as well as a NEW game entirely utilizing the open world mechanics of BotW combined with the setting of the vast ocean and islands of WW.

  25. I remember having a discussion while camping outside a Target for the first day release of the Wii.

I said, “Wind Waker would be better remembered than most Zelda games because it had an art style and gameplay so different from the rest.”

Everybody was like, “The one with the boat?” Just so disbelieving that the game would have staying power. Especially with the release of Twilight Princess. Which I don’t think aged as well. Or at least not as fondly remembered.
