You build games to the hardware, not build a game and then slap it on whatever hardware happens to be current.

This is why we can have fun games on a Ricoh 2A03 running at less than 2 mhz and 2KB of RAM and also can have fun games on an 8 Core 3.5 Ghz x86 CPU with 16 GB of RAM

This is something that developers in the past understood, but appears to be a foreign concept today

  2. don’t force every game on every platform lol.

I easily spent the most time playing games on the PS5 in 2022

My top three games, and the most fun I had playing games in 2022, was on the Switch.

I don’t agree with the article asking for 4k, etc. But I do still think we need a more powerful Switch, ideally something that can play modern day games comfortably at 720p 30fps or better.

I think my current issue with the Switch is that it increasingly can’t play the games that I want to play. And no, I’m not talking about AAA like God of War and Spiderman. I’m talking about indies like Vampire Survivors, or JRPGs like Tales of Arise and Star Ocean 6, etc.

I don’t give a damn about the graphics or battery, etc, just let me play the games I want to play (30FPS is FINE). I only care for more performance because it’s necessary for some of these games.

I’ve hated how I always had to pray for a Switch port for new games, only for to be disappointed. And while ports of older games like Nier Automata are great and all, I personally don’t want a Switch just for ports of old games.

I now use my Switch for Nintendo exclusives, and converted to a Steam Deck for everything else. All I can say is that I’m SO glad that I no longer have to do the “pray-and-hope for a switch port” prayer every time a new game is announced, since it almost always come to Steam.

I never watched performance reviews before i got a switch

There’s not a single game on PS5 or Xbox Series X that gives me the drive to go out and get one of those two consoles. The Nintendo Switch for me is the last bastion of true gaming. Im so sick of hyper realistic games with shallow gameplay that comes across as more of a Hollywood movie rather than an actual video game. I love a good story in a video game, but not at the expense of gameplay, especially if there’s very little of it. It feels like that’s all the PS5 and Xbox Series X are at this point and I hate it. I want actual video games that give me satisfying gameplay, that have soundtracks that actually get stuck in my head and that don’t sound indistinguishable from a Hollywood movie. I don’t care if the graphics aren’t super realistic. I don’t care if the framerate is 60FPS. I just want to have fun and I hate to say this, but it seems to me like the Switch is the only true source of fun in the gaming world right now. Everything else has lost touch with what made games special in the first place, the gameplay. I’ll take a thousand Splatoon games over a single God of War game any day.

The Switch isn’t showing it’s age, gaming journalists and gamers are. They are no longer in touch with what made gaming so special, so unique. They just care about pretty graphics and mediocre, dramatic stories born from people who’d rather make a movie than a video game. I’m done with people trashing the Switch and Nintendo. Xbox and Playstation haven’t done jack for me since the Xbox 360 and PS3 days.

Its 5 years old, multiplatform games aren’t gonna run well on it. Op-Eds based on lazy point of views are just there to get people to click on it, and get emotional reactions.

It’s also a handheld. Were people complaining about the DS’s power in 2009?

SMT V released after being teased 3 years prior and can barely run on the platform it was exclusively made for; Nintendo will find themselves stuck with games that are subpar to the median and will only continue to attract rabid, delusional fans bc it has the newest LoZ. If nothing is updated in 2023 a lot of the reasons to keep supporting Nintendo will no longer be valid in a good faith argument.

Xeno Crisis was released on the Genesis in 2019, folks can piss off when it comes to saying hardware ages out. Devs just gets lazy and forget how to make the most of what they use.
