Square has been supporting the system ever since the big reveal of Octopath Traveler back in January 2017. They even created an entire game development division focused solely on Switch games. We got everything from major multiplats like Nier Automata and Crisis Core Reunion to console exclusives like Bravely Default 2, Triangle Strategy, and Collection of Mana. Not everything they put out on the system was great (looking at you, Kingdom Hearts), but they practically [stole the show in several Nintendo Directs](https://youtu.be/ZIXwYlnoHv4) over the last 6 years.
I’ll quickly run through some of my personal highlights:
Being able to legitimately play Final Fantasy VII on a Nintendo console for the very first time is amazing, even more so if you know the history of this game’s original production.
I got major hand cramps trying to play The World Ends with You: Final Remix docked, but I enjoyed the story within enough to press on. Looking forward to trying out the sequel.
Octopath Traveler really made waves for Square, as several other HD 2D games have since been announced (including a direct sequel) and proved that turn based combat was still viable.
Dragon Quest XI S was the very first Switch game ever announced, and it is an utter treat for fans of traditional RPGs everywhere. I even checked out the OG Dragon Quest games on the eShop after this.
If I didn’t know any better, you could’ve easily convinced me that Live A Live was a brand new IP in the HD 2D style. Thanks Toby Fox for introducing me to this game.
Rhythm games for everyone! Not only are we getting a new Theatrhythm game in two months time, but we also got a Kingdom Hearts rhythm game as well. That was easily the best Kingdom Hearts game you can play on the Switch… not that there was really much in the way of competition.

DQ builders series and DQ11S. I have Nier too but haven’t played it yet.
The DQ games and FF9/12.
Tactics Ogre hands down.
You can’t go wrong with either DQ11 or Bravely Default 2.
DQ11s is my favourite rpg of all time, and loved Octopath even with story issues- I was in rpg heaven playing that one. I hope they put out FF1-6 in some way, I grew up with FF3-4 on DS and loved them.
Liking triangle strategy so far though I wish there was more exploration, and got live a live on a big sale but haven’t tried it yet. Crystal Chronicles HD is an abomination and I’ll stick with the gamecube version
Strong tie between Nier Automata and Dragon Quest 11 at the moment. Though I have enjoyed Live A Live from the little I’ve played so far and just got Crisis Core a moment ago.
Kingdom Hearts has definitely been a low point.
Octopath and tactics ogre
* Octopath Traveler
* Triangle Strategy
* Harvestella
* Nier Automata
* Voice of Cards games
Really loved all of them! I’m super hyped for Octopath Traveler 2.
I’m absolutely going to be in the minority here, but SaGa Frontier Remastered. It’s one of those quintessential childhood JRPG experiences for me right next to Final Fantasy Tactics and Breath of Fire III.
For me it’s:
* Tactics Ogre Reborn
* Live a Live
* DQXI:S
1. Dragon Quest XI S
2. Triangle Strategy
3. Tactics Ogre: Reborn
4. Trials of Mana
5. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
6. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
DragonQuest 11S. For me at least was the most dominant game I played from them.
World of Final Fantasy is criminally underrated. I played it on PS4 and immediately imported the physical Switch version of Maxima and still loved it. A legit funny RPG with a unique stacking mechanic.
All the PS1/2 FF ports are great. 7 and 10 still have a place in my heart.
Nier Automata was fantastic on Switch.
Currently playing Crisis Core on it, and it’s good despite still having the 15-year-old not-so-tight combat mechanics. Despite the “Unreal fuzz” that many UE4 Switch games tend to get, it’s got some gorgeous moments, especially in Shinra’s building.
I love action RPGs like CCFF7R and Ys, so the Mana games are also excellent. Love the Trials remake, and the classics in Collection of Mana are lovely to have in Switch.
Live A Live is a must-play too. I’m still amazed what Square did in the SNES days, and is the blueprint on how to do HD-2D remakes. Can’t wait for DQ 3’s remake.
Live a live remake is top spot so far. But I have a quite a backlog so it will probably take me a while to see who is the best. I haven’t gotten a chance to experience a lot of square Enix’s stuff before that because I’m mainly a Nintendo player, so it’s cool that so much of their stuff is coming out on Switch. I loved world of Final Fantasy maxima too, and I did almost everything in that game! That was awesome!
The only one I have is Final Fantasy :Crystal Chronicles. It’s not great by any means, but it once was a game I really liked.
Tactics Ogre (can we seriously get the SNES and N64 games soon???)
Dragon Quest XI
Octopath Traveler.
Above all those I would put Live-A-Live. Since it is a Switch exclusive as of right now. One of the best gaming experiences I had in recent years.
New for this generation Dragon Quest 11 and Octopath Traveler.
Older game, Star Ocean First Departure R.
NEO The World Ends With You
I been playing through crisis core. I forgot how fun it was
LiveALive or Final Fantasy X/2. Might be bias on the second one LiveALive is so good. It depresses me that people don’t talk about it.
I really liked Triangle Strategy.
1. Final Fantasy 9
2. Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age
3. World of Final Fantasy
4. Dragon Quest XI (really wish they would port Dragon Quest Heroes)
5. SaGa Frontier
6. Chrono Cross
7. Kingdom Hearts: MoM

Really want to play DQ Treasures but they released too many games these past few weeks. Can’t wait for the rhythm game next year and Octopath 2 which come out in my birthday month. Can’t wait to buy Romancing Saga Minstrel Remaster when I get home soon, hope other people give the SaGa games a chance, they are great.
Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy for me, I love the art style. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is great too, the Zodiac job system makes it feel legitimately different from the original game I played on PS2.
Triangle strategy for sure.
The Trials of Mana 3D remake is GODLY!
Octopath Traveler..played the demo then had to get the game. Looking forward to Octopath Traveler 2
1. NEO The World Ends With You
2. LIVE A LIVE
3. Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion
As a fan of the first game since the DS. Neo Twewy was a dream game for me. That surpassed any expectation I could’ve had. It captured all that I liked about the original and still managed to make its own identity out of it. With one of the best and most inventive action combat in recent years, killer ost and fantastic characters new and old. They knocked it out of the park.
Live A Live on the other hand was a big surprise in how good it turned out to be. Having never heard of the original game before. And the remake was a gorgeous update to an rpg that was definitely ahead of its time. Some of the most fun I’ve had with the genre tbh.
Crisis Core is a game I’m very nostalgic for. Loved it on the Psp. And I’m genuinely impressed with how amazing they managed to make the Remake look on Switch. Alongside all the improvements it brings to the og. Specially in the combat.
Well, I currently own:
– Final Fantasy VII
So I think Final Fantasy VII is my favorite.
I liked Octopath Traveller and I am Setsuna.
Triangle strategy by far, GOTY
Dragon Quest Builders 2
