Nintendo

I made a spreadsheet of the preservation state of 3DS SpotPass Special Miis

If you don’t know, Nintendo used to distribute Special Miis, Miis with golden pants, via SpotPass on both the 3DS and Wii U during special events such as E3. I decided to make a spreadsheet of the ones I have gotten through save files dumped with FBI. On the right there are all of the ones I currently preserved with individual links, so feel free to look at it. This sheet also contains a two methods for dumping them, so please check it out.

There is another method for just dumping all of your BOSS data, but this is much faster.

I hope by sharing this, someone who has one of the few I am missing comes forward and dumps them!

This is awesome! I missed out on getting Iwata back in the day and I had wondered if there was any way anyone was ever preserving this stuff.

There is another USA one I think you might be missing on your list. I don’t know if he was ever actually officially released and might be impossible to get. It’s for Jeremiah Slaczka (Scribblenauts Producer) and the Mii is named ‘Miah’ as that’s the [nickname](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_Slaczka) he goes by. Someone [snagged his gold pants Mii](https://web.archive.org/web/20120918202827/https://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/06/the-dude-who-says-he-tagged-nintendo-brass/) just walking around during E3 2011.

I also noticed some duplicates on your list, such as Miyamoto and stuff because they released him multiple times – why they would have different checksums if its the same exact Mii?

Like…when Nintendo [released 4 people on Twitter in 2017](https://twitter.com/nintendoamerica/status/894663013160153089) with QR codes (Miyamoto, Aonuma, Reggie, and Koizumi), are those somehow different than ones already released? The Aonuma from Best Buy has a [different QR code](https://i.imgur.com/L4xnPOn.jpeg) than the one they published on Twitter, so I am just curious – what’s the difference?

I’m not sure if you are separating StreetPass from QR code Mii, but I think the K-Pop group JYJ had official gold pants Mii [released](https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dgw6WnmsvTs/UcHoP3DpruI/AAAAAAAAA1Q/UYe9601lBrg/s1600/KoreanischeMii1.jpg) and a Taiwanese band S.H.E. [had some too](https://www.nintendo.tw/3ds/images/special_mii_kv.jpg). That link to the S.H.E. ones are on Nintendo’s official Taiwanese site. There were some [Resident Evil ones](https://mangatron.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/rsident.jpg) like Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Parker Luciani, and Jessica Sherawat. Those ones were released to promote Resident Evil: Revelations at [Tokyo Game Show 2011](https://galeria3ds.wordpress.com/2011/09/22/qr-code-especial-resident-evil-revelations/).

I had made a post [a while back](https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/comments/3e6ke8/unable_to_transfer_special_miis_from_3ds_to_wii_u/) about this stuff and apparently [there was a Shaq one too](https://gbatemp.net/attachments/2014-06-06-202351-jpg.8323/) that, while released for Tomodachi Life, has gold pants.

I was going through the [Nintendo 3DS Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/Nintendo3DS/) and found [Peter Facinelli](https://www.facebook.com/Nintendo3DS/photos/404479386290725), [Pete Wentz](https://www.facebook.com/Nintendo3DS/photos/391443244261006), [Cam Gigandet](https://www.facebook.com/Nintendo3DS/photos/381605518578112), [Chris Colfer](https://www.facebook.com/Nintendo3DS/photos/369741243097873), [Denise Richards](https://www.facebook.com/Nintendo3DS/photos/359762607429070), [Danny Masterson](https://www.facebook.com/Nintendo3DS/photos/323589501046381), [Chris Masterson](https://www.facebook.com/Nintendo3DS/photos/303694599702538), and [Rainn Wilson](https://www.facebook.com/Nintendo3DS/photos/286762148062450). Some commenters were saying some of them didn’t work, but it’s possible they were not in the USA or something as Gold Pants Mii are region locked.

Lastly, I’m not sure if you saw [this gbatemp thread](https://gbatemp.net/threads/gold-bottomed-miis-for-everyone-_.309733/) about gold pants Mii, there might be some information to help you there.

Thank you for this thorough list and the links!

I remember that a Nikki mii got distributed too but without the gold pants.

This is awesome!! Preservation in all its forms is always great. It’s wonderful to see a more obscure piece of Nintendo history preserved for the future. Love to see this. Stuff like Streetpass is rarely used/talked about these days, so as the 3DS becomes more and more retro the further into the Switch’s life we get, it’s absolutely important to preserve things like that when resources are available

  4. Some of these were actually also distributed on the Wii U through Notifications or on the WaraWara Plaza, or both. Given how unpopular the Wii U was, it’s safe to say that this promotion tactic didn’t last and most were just the same ones from the 3DS, but on Wii U. They also were barely documented and even more confuffling to dump so I never cared to look.

I remember getting the Reggie mii, that was the high light of my life
