And they were absolutely right to do that. Man is a genius. Nintendo wouldn’t be the same without him.

Maybe he should have spent more time working on getting Pikmin 4 done instead of this.

A few friends work for universal studios Hollywood California and although I’m excited to see Nintendo land, friends have been sending pictures and for lack of a better word the executives who are responsible for planning out the theme park really fucked up basic things about the land all for the sake of rushing construction and getting this thing out the door in a partial half ass state.
Main issues are: bad oversights locks not existing for certain restrooms, the clothing being ordered not of the appropriate size, the flooring will not be entirely comfortable to walk in for the employees who will need to spend their day at the site, and the sizing of certain items. If you’re a petite Japanese person you won’t have issue fitting into some of the gear for the rides but if you’re American sized, it’s going to be snug.
The way the shop is set up doesn’t lend itself to respond well to the high demand for purchasing merchandise because this is Nintendo we’re talking about. Merchandise will be to be replenished fairly often at the onset because people are going to be excited to purchase the stuff.
This thing needed to be delayed another half a year honestly but it’s coming out in a few weeks. I’m sure people are going to be really excited because it’s genuinely a cool thing to come, but I think I’m going to give it a year or two before I consider visiting Nintendoland.

True story back in 1990 in the Tokyo Game show, the zelda a link to the past music composer Koji Kondo was playing the tunes in a piano and the Nintendo workers were fucking crying on how beautiful they were.

Doesn’t surprise me. It wouldn’t be a Nintendo project without Miyomoto micromanaging the whole thing

> Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood finally opens its doors on Feb. 17th, 2023, which is just over a month away.
Oh I had completely missed the date for the opening, I did not realize it was opening so soon! Will have to plan a date to travel to US to visit it!

I went to the one in Japan last year and it was pretty amazing. Now I’m living in Southern California and can’t wait to see this one too!

He also personally hired Chris Pratt and beat him when he tried to sound even remotely like video game Mario. Chris argued about Miyamoto’s decisions until Miyamoto beat the soles of his feet with a bamboo cane. The pain was too much to bear so he used his “regular voice” instead.
If you listen closely you can hear him (Chris) slip in a mild New York accent in defiance. It almost cost him his family, but in an interview with the New York Gazette he said it was worth it.

I just put the day off on my calendar at work. So excited to check it out

Not surprised in the slightest.
He’s very particular when it comes to his creations and it always ends up being a really good thing he’s like that, for us anyway. Co-workers probably hate it.

As he should be, being the father of Mario and all. Considering how meticulous he always is about how Mario is represented and portrayed, the results no doubt will be organic and fun. Looking forward to traveling to Universal Studios or Japan to see it 🙂

Can’t wait for the Fire Emblem area with completely accurate features, including permadeath

This is years old news – it’s been open in Japan since March 2021

Was this not said two years ago? Why is everyone acting like Super Nintendo World is new?

No wonder there hasn’t been a new Mario game, too busy with the parks.

Most of the films budget went towards replacing tea tables he upended every time a writer tried to add more story.

Oh of course, saw the trailer and it looked so true to the original like nothing I’ve seen ever and being unique at the same time.
I bet this will be a great movie and I bet the ones making the movies hated his involvement very much.

Isn’t this obvious? Pretty sure it was advertised that way as well

I am completely convinced that this and the Mario movie are 100% why we didn’t get Odyssey 2 or any new Mario game announcements. He’s been treating both the park and movie stuff like they were games being developed, so he spend all his managerial and producer time on these and not overseeing any Mario game whatsoever.

Still shocking it took as long as it did for them to even venture into the theme park space.
I wrote a paper on Walt Disney in 2011, and in it I compare the two companies (Disney and Nintendo) and the company’s respective ages (granted, we all know Nintendo didn’t begin as a video game/indelible characters business).
Now, I’ve pivoted to predicting Netflix trying it.
I recently went to visit the Stranger Things experience in Atlanta and it was soo much fun and it had me thinking this would go well as an experience in a theme park. And if Netflix can keep making some awesome new IPs for themselves, I can see it

Being involved “every step of the way” has always been the prerequisite for anyone wanting to work with Nintendo.

He better make a Pikmin themed area or else

I was at the japan one. Super crowded but fun as hell

Went to the one in Japan a couple months ago. It was pretty awesome. A Nintendo fan’s dream tbh.
I kinda went overboard on merch haha – but there was a coffee mug in the shape of Toad’s head! Can’t go wrong with that.
If ya’ll go, remember to grab the power up bands. The whole park is interactive and you can punch ‘?’ blocks or bricks to collect coins, etc. I’d say if you don’t get the band (and associated phone app) you’re missing 50% of the experience.

For someone who wikipedia claims is publicity shy (“He also does not appear on Japanese television, so as to remain anonymous” etc), Miyamoto’s been doing a LOT of publicity recently for the theme park and the movie.
Probably no one else really could bring the attention the way he would though, having been with Mario from the start and being one of the few game designers from way back then who hasn’t ended up splitting and/or on bad terms with the company that owns his famous creations (compare for example Hideo Kojima and Konami, Will Wright and EA, Hironobu Sakaguchi and Square Enix, etc.)
