The Switch is almost 6 years old so I made this chart with all the games Nintendo has published for the console. This way we could have a better perspective of the ratio of ports vs the exclusive game or multiplayers vs single player games. What are your thoughts on this line up?

Shouldn’t breath of the wild be first/second party?
I’m legittimaly at loss why you have first party, third party, published by Nintendo (which include many errors like Bayonetta 3, the Warrior games) as tiers… but also some tiers for genres like multiplayers and “DIY”?
Arms is technically a new IP. NINTENDO DONT FORGET ABOUT ARMS BRING IT BACK
Shouldn’t Bayonetta 3 be in the First/Second Party section as Nintendo now owns the IP, despite it being developed by Platinum?
I also feel like Breath of the Wild should be in the First Party category. I get there’s a Wii U version of the game, but I feel like calling it port and categorizing it with remasters and remakes isn’t correct.
I also feel like the entire “Published by Nintendo” category should just be Third Party games. That tier is confusing to me.
And where is ARMS?
ETA: I know this is nitpicking, but it’s just bothering me. Why aren’t LiveALive, Neo: The World Ends With You, Famicom Detective Club, and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition in the “Ports, Remasters, and Remakes” category?
Why aren’t the Mario + Rabbids games, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Pokken, SMT V, Daemon X Machina, the Dragon Quest games, Octopath Traveler, and Triangle Strategy in the “Third Party” category?
This tier list is a bit weird because the categories overlap a lot. Like, all the games in that tier list could be in “First and Second Party games”
Isn’t ARMS a new IP too?
this tier list is very flawed and confusing.
I feel so old
I never been confused in my entire life. Bayonetta 2 and 3 can be considered first or 2nd party cus both Sega and Nintendo owns the IP and develop by platinum games. Same as Astral chain platinum games work on it nintendo is the publisher.
BOTW shouldn’t be considered as a port, the gane was released both on wii U and switch at the same time and they considered this the launch title for the switch.
why tf would you spend your time doing this shit
Poor attempt, try again
Weird way to format it, but excellent library overall. This is especially true if you were like me and barely played your Wii U. The only games that got ported that I played on Wii U were Mario Kart and 3D World due to buying the system super late in its lifecycle and then basically abandoning it for the Switch. Pretty much all of those Wii U ports are excellent new games for me.
Pretty much every major franchise has an excellent entry on the console.
– Mario: Mario Odyssey
– Zelda: BotW
– Metroid: Dread
– Smash: Ultimate
– Mario Kart: 8 Deluxe (a port, but enough to be distinct with the improvements and extra courses)
– Kirby: Forgotten Land
– Animal Crossing: New Horizons
– Mario Party: Superstars (easily the best game since GameCube)
– Splatoon: got 2 entries that continuously improve the formula, even if they’re slightly repetitive
Basically all the major franchises got universally well received, excellent releases. Pokemon is a bit more controversial, so I won’t put them in the “unanimously great” category, but I personally have enjoyed them, and it seems like there’s a loud minority that dislike these games so strongly based on sales.
Pikmin has a game coming. Metroid Prime has a game coming. We’re getting another Zelda game that’s a direct sequel. The only big franchise left out is DK.
Then lots of smaller franchises have gotten excellent entries. Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Bayonetta, and SMT all come to mind. This is one of the best consoles ever for JRPG’s. So many great new ones (with more coming), and tons of remakes/remasters/ports of great classic ones.
The only nitpick I can make is at some of the lower tier franchise/spin offs that are kinda mediocre on the Switch. Mainly stuff like the Mario Sports games, but I’m not convinced that they haven’t always been mediocre, and I’m just not nostalgia blind anymore. Toadstool Tour was one of my favorite games as a kid, and I did not enjoy it that much when I went back to it recently. Of the multiplayer party games, Smash, Mario Party, and Mario Kart are all have *excellent* entries, so I’m pleased.
The Switch has the best home console library for Nintendo, and it isn’t all that close to me.
Edit: It’s always hilarious getting downvoted for being positive about the Switch in a discussion thread in the Nintendo Switch sub. I forgot we hate the Switch in /r/NintendoSwitch.
Advance wars 1 + 2 reboot camp was never published unfortunately 😢 not sure why it is on there
A Venn diagram might be a better way to visualize some of these things. For example, there are first party multiplayer games; should these be categorized as “first party” or “multiplayer”?
The chad Ring Fit Adventure.
6 years already? That’s wild.
ARMS and Snipperclips are new IPs.
Worst tier list ever.
this is genuinely confusing and lacks a lot. why is animal crossing among the diy games?! where is arms?! why is lets go pikachu in remakes when its technically its own game?
also a lot of these overlap, so a venn diagram or something would be better
This is confusingly organized. Made worse by the low resolution that doesn’t even allow me to tell what games those are when I zoom in.
This tier list is busted.
This is the worse chart I have ever read in Reddit.
Could you link to a version that has higher res covers if you have it? Thanks!
How is kart not under multiplayer and party games? If it’s under remake, then so should strikers, smash, party, etc
OP getting DRAGGED in the comments LMAO
This is mostly wrong and would confuse someone who doesn’t know any better.
isnt arms a new IP?
Strong contender for the most confusing tier list of all time. Goddamn, just make some Venn diagrams!
Zelda BOTW is neither a pero, nor a remaster, nor a remake.
Who upvotes this?? There’s no logic to anything on this list and there’s five pixels per box art.
Arms is a new IP
Why is Breath of the Wild in ports, etc? I know it’s on the Wii U but wasn’t it made for the switch?
This is the worst, most misinforming “chart” I’ve seen on reddit today, and I came across a post about userbenchmark
Firstly, I hope you don’t feel too discouraged from making these kinds of lists/diagrams again. Not because this one was good—I’m sure you’ve seen the comments—but because I can tell this is something that interests you and I think continuing to make this sort of thing while also improving your methods and logic/reasoning is good.
There are many flaws with your tier list, the first of all being the decisions behind why you made certain “categories” their own tier. Before separating things into natural groups or categories, you have to think about *why* you are separating them this way. What information is actually useful for your audience to learn? For example, does a grouping of DIY games present the same kind of information as a grouping of first party games? Not really. Inherently they delineate two very different qualities: the former groups games by their genre or gameplay style, while the latter groups them by their principal developer. Why these are presented together at all is confusing and obscures the purpose of your list (i.e., what information are you actually trying to present? Genres or publishers? Pick a lane and stick with it!)
Secondly, it’s important to really think about what kind of diagram/chart/table is most effective at presenting the information you have. What does using a tier list imply? It implies that the items you are sorting are grouped in tiers, meaning that there must be some inherent difference in degree or level of a given quality (e.g., how good, cool, exciting, or difficult something is). Using a tier list here means you’re *ranking* the games as they compare to each other on this given quality. Instead, what you’re really trying to present, I think, is what games Nintendo has developed and what games are third-party. This is a dichotomy that could easily be represented by using a table, T-chart, or Venn diagram. If you then wanted to further break down each main category into smaller bins showing how many games fall into each genre/gameplay type, then you could do so then using colour coding or embedded boxes.
Anyway, hope this information helps you in your future list making endeavours!
Where is ARMS? What is this list
After all this time I just recently booted up a fresh BOTW save file on my OLED… And the game is as beautiful/ magical as ever. Nothing on the Switch since has compared. Not because there haven’t been other great games, but because BOTW is that special. I am sooo excited for TOTK.
