Feels like this has been a long time coming. Directs were the beginning of the end, and lately everyone’s realized they can just do their own Directs and reach just as many people. For a lot of companies, I think going to E3 just doesn’t make sense anymore.

Personally, my only real concern here is E3 sorta seemed to “force Nintendo’s hand” and the years where it didn’t happen saw Nintendo not do their usual June Direct, so who knows what they’ll do when they’re (seemingly) deciding to bail on E3 altogether.

In other words: The two people that carried E3 in the past after Sony left, are also leaving.

EA and Ubisoft have big shoes to fill

    *applause*

They’ll just release 45 minute Nintendo Di- er, trailers like they’ve always done. *shrug*

I’m OK with this only if Nintendo brings back their own exclusive expo.

Just make a direct, do a livestream of upcoming and announced titles, and then invite the press to check out games in some exclusive event.

Where were you when E3 die

I was at home eating Dorito when phone ring

    E3 is kill

    no

Pretty fucking sad to see E3 tank like this. Used to really look forward to it every year. It hasn’t been the same for a while.

  7. Who cares. All I need is a short video showing me the big things you have coming out. I’m beginning to think that the only people that actually miss e3 are the journalists who got paid to go to it.

At this point just cancel it. E3 without Xbox, Sony, or Nintendo is like Halloween without Trick or Treating, Haunted Houses, Halloween Parties, or Horror movies

I think the idea of taking an ENTIRE MEDIA FORMAT INDUSTRY and cramming almost all of the news for that ENTIRE INDUSTRY into a *single week* where EVERY POSSIBLE COMPETITOR is vying for a spot where they won’t be overtaken by the next big story…was a pretty lousy idea if you think about it.

    Of course they wanted out.

I get that it used to be a big event, but gamers have it in there heads that E3 is this Christmas-like event that only comes once a year. When that’s only a limit that E3 puts on the industry.

This is a good thing, and I think it will help the gaming industry be taken a bit more seriously, and not just be a niche thing that has a major news cycle that lasts about a week and then goes into hibernation for a year.

In a brighter world It’d be like comic con and a bunch of indie devs have little booths but it’ll probably be Ubisoft shilling for assasins creed “uhhh I dunno Fuckin samurai? Yeah samurai”

  11. E3 used to be so beautiful. What happened to it?

Nothing of value was lost. Direct to consumer videos is best. Don’t give the execs, producers, or devs any airtime. With a few exceptions, they’re all poor speakers. Just let the games speak for themselves. Invite press to play your game. We have the internet now so there’s just no need for conventions.

I don’t want E3 to die. We need some sort of gaming tradition to stay alive.

The Amico booth should be pretty lit

I think the biggest thing I miss about E3 back in the day was simply knowing that big gaming news was on its way. Now we just get a bunch of small spots online without any structure. If Sony or Nintendo could just set up a yearly schedule, we’d at least have something to look forward to. Just specific dates, maybe 3-4 times a year where they have some sort of presentation. They could be themed around major announcements, indies, VR, etc. as long as we know something is coming, it builds up hype. Oh well, RIP E3.

RIP E3 1995-2023 Wonder if COVID killed it or just the big 3 wanted to keep away from each other

  17. Well, E3 is officially dead. They lost their headliners. What do they have left, EA and Ubisoft? Sad, I was hoping it would come back full force but those crazy presentations are expensive.

It would be kinda neat if E3 just pivoted and became more of an indie game and tech expo. Might offer 3rd party and independent companies a chance to grow. I’m in NO way an expert on business practises or marketing, BUT I personally enjoy indie games more than AAA and would love this story to have a happy ending.

✅️Gaming companies leaving to do their own thing

✅️Games becoming clones of each other and only selling well because of herd mentality

✅️Major players in the gaming industry no longer participating in industry communal events

🟩terrible game adaptation of a movie that releases before the movie and has nothing to do with the movie’s plot

🟩Repeat of gaming crash of 1983

  20. DecentReplacement953

    But why? 🙁 I love E3 it’s a shame.

  21. ZombieSlayer5

So basically, E3 is slowly becoming the Devolver Digital Show.

  22. The internet killed E3.

But it had to go anyway. Nothing lasts forever.

I will have fond memories of it.

  23. Pakmanjosh

With EA and Ubisoft being the only major contenders left, it’s going to one boring E3. Ubisoft is going to reveal another bunch of generic open world games, and EA is probably going to reveal an update for Battlefield or whatever.

you guys are all jokes until Atari, SEGA, and Magnavox are all onstage, announcing new hardware
