Avalanche Software Discusses Switch Version of Hogwarts Legacy

I’ve been doing some research to try to find some information about the not-so-discussed Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy, and I discovered that Troy Johnson, Advanced Game Designer at Avalanche Software, recently said that the Switch version will be “perfect” because it will be base will be based on the PS4 and Xbox One versions. One interesting thing he said is that people often skip a major step in terms of portability, starting with the most powerful version and going straight to the least powerful version. But with Hogwarts Legacy they will do a gradual porting, little by little, starting with PS5, then PS4 and only then Nintendo Switch.

**So I believe this could be good news for anyone waiting to play this on the Nintendo Switch :)**

Not interested in buying the game for the same reason as everyone else.

But speaking in terms of performance, unless the port is handled by Saber or Panic Button, I can’t imagine how they’ll manage to fit a game like HL on Switch without cutting a lot of corners.

  2. Honestly i wouldnt have my hopes high if i were you. What he said doesnt mean much, since games based on PS4 and Xone or even PS3 and Xbox360 struggle on the switch, be on the graphical/pop-in area or the performance area(Pillars of Eternity, WWE2k, Outer Worlds, etc)… while some “modern” games (No Man’s Sky, Alien Isolation, Diablo III, Dying Light, etc) run very very well although its limitations.

Honestly I think that time and money are basically the only things that makes a good port on the Switch… although im far from being an expert on the hardware part of videogames and their portabilities. But what i can tell for sure is to never trust the words of companies, and always expect for a buggy and performance mess. Never get overhyped. And tbh, i hope im wrong, but i doubt that Hogwarts Legacy will be a “good/fun” experience on the Switch. If it runs well, im sure it will come with lots and lots of downgrades to justify its performance. But, like i said, lets hope im wrong!

This is gonna look so shit on the switch. Like why even try to make it. Sounds like a waste of time

Lots of negativity in the comments; people seem to forget the Wii during the movie’s lifecycle was considered essential due to the popularity of the console and Harry Potter audience owning them.

And in terms of technology, they ran incredibly well.

I expect it to look about the same as the Witcher. I’ve just seen the launch trailer and I think the graphics aren’t as amazing as some said it would be. It looks good but it doesn’t look ‘next’-gen. So l, to me it seams feasible to port it to Switch.

I am cautiously optimistic. Obviously I am expecting a lot to be toned down, but I have had fun playing ports that were not graphically impressive to put it nicely.

Technicalities aside, I hope the game is good and with authentic-feeling roleplaying for 19th century Hogwarts/Wizardry Britain. I don’t feel much confidence in Warner Bros. Games, to be honest, and the studio’s output doesn’t inspire much either, but I am rooting for the best.

As long as it’s not a buggy broken mess I’m gonna enjoy it. I stopped playing videogames about a year after Skyrim first came out and never got spoiled by 4th gen graphics. Started with a switch lite almost 3 years ago and thought the Witcher 3 looked great.

I’m half expecting them to make a 2D/Isometric version of this game for the Switch, just like the DS days.

  10. boofjensen

There’s gonna be a switch version? Oh dear… lol.

It’s honestly sad how much the switch was left from big 3rd party developers, there was awesome ports but also a lot more that were left because of the switch being underpowered, let alone how the port is being the lowest in graphics and fps
Still I’m super happy that I played overwatch on the go it’s awesome I hope there is more

  12. This game is going to be horrible, three game play loop is non existent, this studio has done nothing on this scale.

I hope for the best but expect the worst

Someway , somehow they will manage to get it on the platform (switch) but somehow Pokémon and Gamefreak can’t seem to make a real trippe AAA Game.

  14. Goofyboy2020

It will be playable, for sure. They won’t release something that is unplayable on Switch.

But, people need to lower their expectations on the graphics quality, even compared to the PS4. If you reread your own sentence, the go PS5, then PS4 and then Switch, meaning they will lower the quality under the PS4 version.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my Switch too. But the game will just not look and perform the same. It’s physically impossible.

I hate Nintendo for not giving us a new hardware, playing new Zelda in probably less than 30 will be a torture for me.

I do enjoy my Switch for Nintendo only games, but games like this are just better on my PS5 and 4k Sony TV

  17. Sky2Life

They started with the Xbox One and PS4 of WWE 2K18 and looked how that turned out

  18. walksintwilightX1

I’m cautiously optimistic here. I love my Switch, I really do. But as someone who was disappointed by The Witcher III port, modern AAA games on Nintendo’s hybrid console tend to suck. Indies, older ports, and first-party releases are what the system does well. Hopefully Hogwarts Legacy won’t feel like too much of a downgrade.

  19. weallfloatdownhere7

People really out here expecting a portable version to be equal to the current gen counterparts

  20. Anon419420

If it’s anything like Nier Automata’s port, I’ll call it a day and buy it full price. Fuck getting it on PC.

  21. Chickat28

It’s gonna look like a blurry PS3 game but to have it portable, that’s a worthy tradeoff imo. Assuming it has stable 30 fps.

  22. zakkforchilli

Sounds like what they did with the Crysis 3 port. Based off Xbox version and it runs so damn well it’s wild and looks better than PS😂

  23. nightwinghugs

i fully bought a ps5 to play this game so that i didn’t have to 1) wait for the release and 2) deal with performance issues after all that

  24. AZBamboo89

Switch is not comparable at all to an Xbox One or PS4.

  25. Crafty-Doughnut3532

Woohooo!! Im so excited! Unlike Genshin… who release a switch trailer but still no release.

  26. SoulOfGwyn

I still don’t have much faith that the game will be everything that was promised without being broken on the *main platforms*, so I have even less faith in this version.

  27. Full_Advisor_1643

In SwitchUp and Digital Foundry we trust…

  28. Lord-Lyon

I’m definitely waiting a year or so for things to get worked out since I want a good experience.

  29. RusticPumpkin

I imagine the graphics will be similar to Witcher 3 with 30fps. Witcher 3 certainly doesn’t look great on Switch as it’s quite blurry, but it’s still playable and a decent portable experience.

  30. Al-Azraq

I like this approach of not releasing everything at once and focusing on porting one version at a time. I hope for a great Switch port.

  31. ShadowJoyConBoy

People need to understand the switch is a 15 watts small tablet, so the fact that you can play botw since 2017 for $300 is actually a miracle.

  32. levilicious

Take fricking NOTES game developers. This is how you do a port

  33. Slow-Attention-2033

Who gives a fuck no one should be playing this terfs shit. Have some respect.

  34. twinkletoes-rp

YAY! I’m SO damn excited for this game! >:D
