As a fan I miss the golden era of E3, it was sick having several days of constant announcements from the entire industry. But from the perspective of devs and publishers I don’t really see any argument against stuff like Nintendo Direct and Playstation State of Play being a more effective way to get eyes specifically on your product

>I am told this is the future of game announcements, but why do they have to be so dull?
The problem is you, not the format or content. Find something better to do with your time if you aren’t enjoying it.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It’s good we don’t have those time-wasting skits in the direct anymore. For as meme-worthy as they are, they took away precious time from the games that were being showcased. While there is definitely value to having silly marketing, there’s other avenues Nintendo has to put out that kind of advertising.

Nintendo Directs are so fun. I don’t see an issue with them. They’re Nintendos signature.

Kill Nintendo directs after Nintendo had arguably one of the best ones in a long time? Makes sense.

What a bad take

The author (other than being in a hideous conflict of interest given their association with E3) makes the fundamental logical fallacy of assuming that Directs are meant to be fun and creative, when really their purpose is merely technical. They’re meant to communicate upcoming games to the audience, and I am personally in awe of how concise and to the point Directs are.
I appreciate that as a journalist you may miss the days in which Nintendo shows were more flamboyant and memable, but that’s not a problem the common fan has. Nobody misses having to endure cringe puppet shows just to see what’s coming on Wii U.
As for the argument on Nintendo losing creativity, that’s an argument that is half baked during the article and never once supported by actual gameplay discussion (the author just complains about collectibles and stuff, which suggests they are not a Nintendo player at all)

But the last one was fantastic.

Please don’t take away that little glimmer of joy and anticipation I get every few months.

Colossally stupid take.
People *beg for directs*. Do you understand that? There is a demand for these showcases.

Nah. They’re fine. You don’t have to sit through them. Read the headlines after. Problem solved.
Click bait.
It’s time to kill these clickbait articles | Opinion
The cynic in me can’t help but note the author of an article criticizing a highly-successful digital showcase format [works for Reedpop](https://uk.linkedin.com/in/christopher-dring-236b3211), the company that’s [now in charge of running E3.](https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/reedpop-is-taking-over-e3/)
