This game would have been everything I want from a new Star Fox Game.

  2. Games get cancelled all the time, but I’d have been interested in this idea.

After how Zero turned out, Armada would have been the actual saving grace for the series 🙁

I lost count… How many games from Retro Studios were shut down by Nintendo again?

I hope one day Nintendo does a Dread with this game and it becomes a reality.

Meh. Star Fox Assault.. was bar none the best Star Fox game ever. The multiplayer was great. If they continued down that direction and on foot vehicle battles just increased in scope with more players, more weapons and tighter gameplay balance then it would have been a solid game series. Keeping Fox in a vehicle is a disservice to Star Fox and is what killed the franchise.

  6. We should all watch this before Nintendo gets it taken down.

I really enjoyed Star Fox adventures, I’d take another like it, but 64 will always be my favourite

Growing up I never really had a connection to Star Fox so I hope a new game that’s like that will be made someday.

Controversial opinion: this game sounds generic and I’m glad the pitch was rejected.

I’m happy people want the Star Fox series to continue. I’m even happier that some of them have close ties to Nintendo, and have been making pitches.

Some ideas in this pitch are novel, like Fox never leaving his ship, and retaining the puppet aesthetic.

But why would Fox have to buy the Land Master if it continues immediately following Star Fox 64, a game featuring the Land Master as already being the property of Star Fox?

All of the original thoughts for the game have either already been done to death, or are elaborated on to the effect of “this doesn’t make any sense but I’m sure we’ll figure it out.” It has potential to maybe be interesting if more thought was put into it, but this barely sounds like a game with any sort of focus as it is; more just kind of a greatest hits of ideas other games had at the time.

Thank you Star Fox Zero for being such a disappointment. Now we got cheated out from a game we actually wanted.

Retro was so close to a good idea with this, but I’ve said numerous times on this sub. Starfox needs the No Man’s Sky treatment. And a better version of what Starlink attempted.

And no, not millions of procedurally generated world’s, but a curated, semi open world Lylat system.

Let the players navigate the system freely and land on planets seamlessly. Once on the planets, let the players out of their Arwing and do ground missions like Assault.

Of course keep the core mechanics when in space. Have space missions, maybe even rail missions mixed into the open world.

It’s an easy win if they make the many world maps dynamic and unique from each other. Upgrades to your ships, tanks and submarines. Upgrades to Fox and crews armor, weapons when doing ground missions.

Also unrelated but was the former employee under NDA about what Retro was developing between 2013 and 2018? Just strange that he wouldn’t give one bit of details. It makes you wonder if whatever Retro was working on, before being put on MP4, is still planned to be released one day.

Sounds overly ambitious so of course Nintendo passed on it.

But then for whatever went ahead and churned out Zero using some of the same ideas…

Look, I know fans see Retro as a god tier dev for the Prime and DK Returns series, but the reality is they’ve always been a VERY dysfunctional and badly managed company. This pitch had no reason to get immediately dismissed by management. Look into their history as a company though and you’ll see how unsurprising this behavior is.

I still say that Nintendo should have never reworked Dinosaur Planet into a Star Fox game and had they not done so, both IPs would have turned out better in the long run

  15. This sounds amazing but the reasons this didn’t get made probably won’t resonate with a lot of this sub. It sounded like it would take tons of resources and it’s likely the studio knew they couldn’t commit those resources with what they already had on their plate so they never pitched it to Nintendo.

What they did with Star Fox on the switch was pretty lame. Toys to life in general is lame.
