    the Yoshi’s Island track for Mario Kart 8D, the game that was released in 2014 and re-released on the Switch, was the best news to come out of this 40 minute direct. We really have gotten so much worse over time (outside of the obviously incoming “but wait” BOTW moment)

    Randomly dropping a new character halfway through a DLC pass that’s been advertised as tracks-only for a year… and that character being Birdo… is such a Nintendo move.

    Birdo was always my go-to character and I’m excited she’s finally back! She’s been passed over several times in the Switch era, very disappointing.

    I just had a quick look at the character select screen and if there planning on only adding one character it’s going to look incredible uneven and weird. I think we will at least get 5 more characters along with birdo in order to create a new column within this screen. I might be clutching at straws but it makes more sense than having an uneven select screen

    I wonder if they’ll add any new weight classes for the character. Hopefully they are at least somewhat viable to use.

    Lots of great stuff in this Direct, but this made me happiest. Always played Mario Kart DD/Wii with my sister and we were always Birdo and Yoshi.

    Hoping for a smattering of other returning characters and maybe even new one? (Too much to hope? We are getting new tracks in a retro pack, so we will see).

    This seem like a lazy cash grab when it was announced, but now they’ve delivered more than promised with the custom items mode and now Birdo.

    Question: just got the online+ subscription to get the GBA virtual console. I get the DLC with that, if I cancel the subscription, do I lose the DLC?

    Love that they randomly added a nee character. Birdo is a good pick. Obviously hoping for more characters with future waves now. Especially since the roster has some very notable exclusions in it still.

    I was so stoked to see this. Birdo’s one of my favorite Mario characters, and while I was happy to have the Koopalings in MK8 (Lemmy’s adorable), I was bummed that she was absent, even though she had a frickin’ billboard cameo in one of the tracks. So now she’s in and I’m over the moon. Possessed vacuum cleaner-voiced trans icon.

    Plus, the Yoshi’s Island course looks AWESOME. I really hope the Fuzzies show up as a course obstacle. Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy, bitches. That’d be one hell of a way to fuck with the drivers.
