may be? this is a new low for rumors

  2. TheDoctorDB

I’ve been saying since its inception that’s the only way getting rid of virtual console made sense. If this system doesn’t carry over to future consoles there’s no point

  3. Kamiyouni

What would it be called then? Unless we really are getting a Switch pro. .. Super Switch? Switch Up?

  4. WEEGEMAN

It better be. Nintendo has to move on from restarting their digital legacy content on every new piece of hardware.

  5. Sharrty_McGriddle

I’d hope we wouldn’t have to wait another 6 years to play n64 games when the new Nintendo console comes out, but it wouldn’t shock me

  6. McNuggetsauce69

I miss when you could play online without having to pay money

  7. flower4000

I mean that’s how PlayStation network and Xbox live function. Like the fact that this is good news for Nintendo is just sad. Hopefully online purchases carry forward.

Just please for the love of god, give us the option to hide away all extra UI when playing retro games.

Not just the god awful side graphics in 4:3 games, but also the player icons. Everything!

Put it in an advanced menu if you’re worried about casual users turning it on by accident and add a warning when the option is switched on asking them if they’re sure. Please Nintendo. Please understand!

I don’t think that this will happen. I remember that i had a big digital game library during the Wii era and that the “old” Nintendo homepage showed you all these games in your account. With the “new” homepage and Nintendo Switch Online this complete library was reset. Just imagine that Steam resets your library with every new release.

  10. Ninten-Doh

It better be. Its time every console went like steam now.

  11. jjmawaken

I feel like it has to be. I can’t imagine people willing to sign up for a whole new one starting from scratch. I think that was the whole point of it is we can stay subscribed and continue playing the same games on the next system.

  12. CranberryPuffCake

It needs to. People need to keep their purchases and have access to the retro stuff available with Nintendo Online.

  13. If Nintendo keeps the online services for N64, Gameboy, etc active, what will happen to those of us who also use the online for MarioKart waves, Animal Crossing DLC, etc when they move on to the next console? Are we better off purchasing the DLC just in case? :/

  14. hopsmonkey

This is how Nintendo moves the bar to make you actually grateful that you now have to rent games forever to play on current hardware (games that many of us already paid for, often multiple times).

  15. TBH I’m sure the next console will be like the OG wii which had full back support with GameCube.

There are too many switch controllers and accessories to get money from.

Nintendo at this point is a hand held console maker.

  16. No_Property2880

It’s an online service…why wouldn’t it be lol this a clock bait non article

  17. chzygorditacrnch

I hope the next console plays switch games

  18. ladyace22

Maybe? Maybe?! Geez let’s hope so! That way we don’t get a repeat of what happens when they shutdown the last two times the markets for the older consoles…

  19. YouPeopleAreGarbage

Uh, “may”? No, they “must”. Game cards too.

  20. Pro_Banana

Uhhh it better be? Not only for us consumers but for Nintendo too lol

  21. M4NU3L2311

I hope they do that. That’s one of the reasons I don’t buy anything digital on my switch if they have a physical version.

  22. psirockin123

I’m really hoping that the next console is like the 3ds was to the ds. Just make switch 2 cartridges the same size, maybe with a tab on the end like 3ds games. I’m really hoping that digital games bought on switch can be transferred too, even if it’s a one time thing like VC from the Wii to the Wii U.

The games really should be account based and if it’s available on the new system, and not a remaster or something, then you should be able to download it.

  23. Splatoon 3 still barely works and it might be the last online nintendo product I buy. It shouldn’t disconnect as often as it does and I have gigabit fiber optic internet.

  24. ‘May be’.

This is why I don’t subscribe for the classic games. I paid for them on wii, I paid for them again on wii u and now Nintendo wants to rent them to me and ‘maybe’ the service will continue into the next generation? I’m good.

  25. stutterbombz

With the technology we have now, why wouldn’t it? If companies keep making us pay for the same games over and over again people will stop buying the new console. I’m okay paying 50 bucks a year for classic games and the ability to play games online with my friends. Or give me the option to buy the game and not use a subscription, Stop giving us a virtual console just to keep taking it away.

  26. SharpEdgeSoda

I want Nintendo to add more games faster, but I understand why Nintendo is terrified of the day it’s out of games to add on some consoles.

I know there’s some notable missing entries, but the N64 Library is really close to being tapped. The Gamecube Library would be tapped very qucikly.

The lack of 3rd Party support on N64, Gamecube, WiiU and lack of *meaningful* third party support on Wii does sort of mean that if they added everything at once, then they lose that tasty carrot to dangle in front of fans.

The games on the N64 and Gamecube can be some of the greatest of all time…but their numbers are in the dozens. That’s difficult to pace out.

  27. xenon2456

Just like how new Xbox consoles still use Xbox live

  28. AllModsRLosers

It would be crazy if it wasn’t.

First up, I’m willing to be that whatever comes next will be based on ARM cpus, so compatibility will be easier but the REAL kicker is this: it’s a subscription.

Nintendo has me on the hook for a recurring payment. They’d be crazy to let that go when they can so easily transition me and my recurring payment onto the next platform.

Of all the things I’m worried about, this ain’t one of them.
