I’ve never had to throw more than one ball for a raid shiny so I always told my partner they were 100%

That sucks. Sorry for your luck. They should at least make it guaranteed to catch shinies being that 99.9% of the time they’re zero or one stars anyhow. :-/
They said it because they aren’t. You could be traveling too fast in a car, you could get gps drift and move to far away from the gym, your game could crash and the raid be over and you could miss every throw. Any of these could happen so there is no guarantee you just have to go out of your way to not catch
Probably soft-locked due to GPS drift. I had that happen twice today (not with shinies). Pretty mad about it. Almost happened a third time, but then I remembered to check for drift (hard close the game and restart. Rejoin the raid and after a couple seconds, it sets you back to catching) and I got it on the second to last ball.
Mine were always guaranteed catches in the past
They are guaranteed but I think you maybe moved away from the gym? Or at least your gps thought you did.
For those who says OP might be travelling while catching. It’s maybe. But that’s not the point. Pls read their response. They just flat out denying that shiny legendary in raid has any different in catches rate compared to the normal one. Am I crazy?
I have 7 or 8 shiny legendaries. Every single one of them I’ve caught on the first throw even when I completely mess up the throw and barely hit the Pokémon

I always thought 🍍 and just hit it and it’s a guaranteed catch. Always have worked for me in raids. Those shiny wild Latios are a different story lol

A guaranteed shiny catch from a raid would be complete raid, see it shiny and it appears in your bag.
They can’t guarantee you don’t throw like a washing machine and miss every ball.
They can’t guarantee you aren’t travelling in first class on a private jet.
They can’t guarantee that your house isn’t a giant hamster cage with mesh walls, making it a faraday cage.
They can’t guarantee you don’t play PoGo on a potato phone and it’s over boiled.

Shiny legendary raids encounters are unofficially guaranteed. You have to make contact and you have to not be having an issue like speed lock, gps, or other soft ban causes.
From my experiences before this, Shiny Legendary Raid Pokemon were always guaranteed catches. Maybe this event was an exception.
I had a shiny Sceptile, from a mega raid, that broke out of two balls before being caught, but that’s it
Can I just add that I’ve now done 28 kyogre raids and 23 Groudons and haven’t gotten a shiny lol

The vast majority of things we know about the game were things that were documented by players, not described by Niantic. Niantic usually only gives the in-world explanation and does not describe the actual mechanics. I think it is correct that Niantic has never said that raid shines were guaranteed. But that is the way it works (it does not break out of the ball) and if that’s not what happened for you then something else was up to make it uncatchable.
We’re you in a car while catching this one? Pretty sure you can still be speed locked on a shiny

Always caught Shiny legendaries raid shinies on the first throw. They must have changed it.

Wtf kind of bullshit response is this. No Niantic, shiny legendaries are not challenging to catch. The only Pokemon that are ‘challenging’ to catch is the Galarian birds, and those aren’t even challenging either. They’re damn near impossible.
