This may seem a bit crazy and/or stupid, but hear me out.
Given the news of Microsoft’s new contract with Nintendo and CoD, it got me thinking. Nintendo will need a new powerful hardware to run the latest AAA games.
Nintendo and Apple have been working together for several years now, first with getting Super Mario Run on the App Store. The mobile company that helped Nintendo get Mario on the iPhone; DeNa, is now forming a partnership with Nintendo under a new company, Nintendo Systems Co., Ltd which opens in April 2023

The similarities in the business models are well documented;

Apple has also been rumored to be making a Switch competitor, but they’re well aware of how hard it is to break into the 3 team console race without established 1st party games.

What if, and it’s a massive if, the two companies combine forces to get a high end console onto the market that would allow Nintendo to reach the major AAA games market, and Apple to develop their first piece of dedicated gaming hardware since the Pippin
Nintendo has already shown a willingness to extend their software IPs outside of their homegrown hardware division. This move would allow Nintendo to outsource high end hardware development, while still maintaining a lead on the mobile games market, sort of how they managed with the DS. The marketing of a mutual platform would be equally beneficial

oh god no

No.
I’m probably going to explain this badly because I’m sleep deprived from having the flu.
The problem with this is I feel like they would basically be locking themselves in this partnership with Apple to keep up competitively. There would be no reason to leave this partnership ever, unless Nintendo themselves decides to make their own next gem hwrdware capable of keeping up with Sony and Microsoft.
They’d have to rely on Apple for hardware every console cycle. Not that Apple is a slouch, but I feel like once they agreed to the first outing, they may not have the freedom of choice like they’ve had on their own. Nintendo kills it (usually) with innovation and new ways to play games. I’d be scared that Apple may want some input on what to put into the hardware.
However! Before Switch was officially revealed, when we were hearing about the portability rumors and stuff, I was hoping for a Nintendo/Apple collab phone. Essentially it’s what the Switch is now, but it was a foldable phone which made it super portable. I never thought about how controls would work though, because I take physical controllers over touch screen control 9/10 times.
That would be a bad device. Apple has a completely different philosophy when it comes to hardware.
Nvidia’s already designing them an ARM based next gen device.
As for COD, this deal doesn’t mean Nintendo platforms get the same exact games Xbox will. Could be they make unique CoD games for Nintendo designed for Switch, or they make dumbed down ports of the new games.
Nintendo has been a mostly independent toy/electronic hardware company for 134 years, so I don’t really think so. Not really quite known for teaming up with possible competitors.
No
No
Apple has been failing when it comes to games for over 30 years, they never took it seriously as a company.
Mobile games are a huge money maker obviously, but that’s a different market segment than traditional games.
Apple’s SoC’s are great and something like that would be good to have in a Switch successor. But Apple has no interest in licensing their chip designs to another company. Apple Silicon is designed for Apple hardware and they get a much larger profit on selling their own hardware than they would by licensing it out.
Hopefully not, Apple shit is always so expensive
Nintendo already controls the portable market, there is no incentive to team up with apple because they will never be able to make a console that takes on Nintendo’s IPs. Also, Nintendo has consistently shown a refusal to extend their IPs outside of their own hardware, with them having no interest in pc ports and not allowing their characters to appear on other platforms in any way. Mobile is treated a bit differently since it is a very different market, but even then its not a priority for them.
Double the name brand tax, double the tech downgrade. Would be like, an $800 dollar console built to compete with the Wii u.
No. This has Nintendo Playstation written all over it.
No.
Just… No.
I hope not
>This may seem a bit crazy and/or stupid
It is
>Given the news of Microsoft’s new contract with Nintendo and CoD, it got me thinking. Nintendo will need a new powerful hardware to run the latest AAA games.
No they don’t. Just because Call of Duty is coming to Nintendo platforms doesn’t mean Nintendo is all of the sudden going to make a more powerful system for other demanding games. That hasn’t been their goal at all for the Switch.
>Nintendo and Apple have been working together for several years now, first with getting Super Mario Run on the App Store.
Nintendo making mobile games doesn’t really indicate any sort of desire for Apple and Nintendo to collaborate. If you’re making mobile games, of course you have to work with Apple to get your games on the App Store
>Apple has also been rumored to be making a Switch competitor, but they’re well aware of how hard it is to break into the 3 team console race without established 1st party games.
This isn’t evidence that they want to work with Nintendo. Especially since it’s a rumor.
>What if, and it’s a massive if, the two companies combine forces to get a high end console onto the market that would allow Nintendo to reach the major AAA games market, and Apple to develop their first piece of dedicated gaming hardware since the Pippin
Nintendo has long since bowed out of competing with high end consoles. Their goal is to make systems with gimmicks that hook consumers to compensate for a lack of power. More importantly, to have a platform for their first party games that they are so protective over.
>Nintendo has already shown a willingness to extend their software IPs outside of their homegrown hardware division.
No. Nintendo has been so hesitant to make mobile games for the longest time. They are incredibly protective of their IPs. However, Nintendo outsourcing for hardware isn’t unheard of, but this whole thing is highly unlikely.
Less than 0% chance
Nintendo doesn’t need Apple, it’s doing just fine.
But this statement:
“Allow Nintendo to reach the major AAA games market”???
What mythical games market is this?
They arguably have some of the most recognisable and successful gaming IP’s in the world, and their staple and newer IPs continue to set records, so not sure what you are on about here.🤔
Fun thought experiment, but honestly I think both companies are too similar for this kind of project to make sense. As in, they’re both hardware brands that aren’t going to want to shake up their successful business models, and neither of them has a need that the other exclusively satisfies. I’d say it’s much more likely Apple teams up with a strong character IP holder like Disney and buys up a bunch of game dev companies, because what Apple would need to compete in the AAA gaming space is first party exclusives and strong IP. Nintendo, on the other hand, doesn’t need Apple’s hardware, especially if it means having to split profits with them. They’re breaking records with NVidia hardware, and they’ll probably continue that relationship, especially given NVidia’s prominence in GPU hardware.
With how expensive and poorly designed apple products are, i would hope not
Ni te do really doesn’t need a partner though. That’s the thing that throws this out.
Lol if they are trying to get stronger hardware I would not go to Apple

Not likely.
Apple isn’t a Japanese company, Nintendo is. There’s been many mentions of how it’s difficult for Nintendo to communicate with people who don’t speak Japanese.
Nintendo used to co-create consoles. The biggest hiccup in that was the legendary Nintendo PlayStation deal that resulted in creating one of the biggest competitors. It also lead to a bad deal and the only Mario and Zelda games not made and published by Nintendo on the Phillips CD-i. They only seem interested in providing chips.
The next Switch is rumored to be slightly beyond the capabilities of a PS4. The bigger games will likely be able to be downsized to work on Switch 2 without much of an issue. Why involve Apple when they aren’t needed?
I dont want apple near Nintendo. Absolutely not.
Apple already tried once [and that sure went well](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Pippin)
Also that source is almost two years old with no leaks since. Don’t keep your hopes up.
>This may seem a bit crazy and/or stupid
To put it lightly.
>but hear me out.
Nope.
No need!.
Well, I’d rather they didn’t.
No offence, but I don’t think this is a good idea. Nintendo is in a league of their own when it comes to games, they are the literal pinnacle of the ‘AAA genre’ and they have no need for Apple. While MS and Sony are fighting over technological superiority Nintendo is beating them on 7 year old phone hardware. The reason for that is their extremely strong IP and their quality (often innovative) gameplay. I totally agree that the Switch would be better if it had better hardware, but Nintendo doesn’t need Apple for that.
This idea is a fun way to make sure I never buy a new Nintendo product.
if apple gets involved, say goodbye to the $300 console.
