Also, the max number of mega species in the medal is now 3 less than the maximum possible (megas + primals). (It was always 1 less than the maximum. Maybe this means there will be a fifth (black?) tier for the medals, like Ingress medals?

It was actually 2 less. There are 48 mega evolutions and 2 primals. There are 46 species that can mega evolve, but 2 of them have 2 different megas (Charizard and Mewtwo).
We already have a lot of platinum medals at the highest number they will ever get. The Mega medal has always been a bit weird. We’ll just hit platinum at 46 while seeing the number rise up to 50
And when they run out of Mega Evolutions to hype us with, that’s when Gigantamax comes out to play.
Yes that was confirmed when they said they would add the primals to the mega dex
Yes they do it if press primal without enough energy it says not enough *mega* Groudon/kyogre energy not primal energy
The thresholds should be changed to 5-15-30-50.
I wonder if this error will rear it’s head again- I can see Niantic reusing the mega code for Necrozma’s Ultra Burst…
