[Pokemon Masters EX] A Showcase of SC Steven’s Enabling Capabilities in Legendary Arenas

While I did say that SC Steven was a somewhat awkward unit, he still functions as a very strong enabler even in gauntlet content. Here is a compilation of clears featuring his enabling capabilities on nine Legendary Arena stages with the exception of Latios who I think is too easy, Tapu Bulu who I feel doesn’t really have a low tier physical Flying dps that is not an egg (I don’t want to raise a strike Fearow just for a clear), and Regirock who just nullifies the drops of B Leer and the other effects of the buddy move don’t really matter for the stage (might as well just use Red). For all these clears I’ll be using SC Steven with just a 1/5 grid even though I have him at 2/5 from pulling on dailies to really showcase that 1/5 is all that he really needs.

Due to character limits, I’ll have explanations to each team in the pinned comment.

  1. TORNADUS: SC Steven, Sophocles, Supp Chansey

If Sophocles had more bulk, maybe 150 20/20 this could probably be a duo. Steven is able to set up Sophocles' Cakewalk so he's free to spec fully into dealing fat nukes even without a crit buff. Steven's one-time Resilience also ends up being very useful for blocking the Toxic. Chansey is just here for extra healing given the nature of Tornadus' stage being very RNG there may be times that you'll have to do a few extra cycles to cover for an untimely Self-Cure.

UXIE: SC Steven, Phoebe, Tech Electabuzz

Phoebe seems to be the only Physical Ghost damage source that fully benefits from SC Steven (SS Korrina, Fall Morty, and SSR Cynthia deal so much damage they require minimal to no support, Morty duos with Tech Venomoth, Fall Morty provides). Thanks to SC Steven we're able to enable Phoebe's striker mode with some really meaty hits and syncs not just boosted by Power Reserves and Emergency Sync but also Steven's PMUN and SEUN to reach damage ranges. We also make use of using B-Leer upon entry into bar 3 to have Restrain up to disable the damage mitigation.

    ENTEI: SC Steven, SS Grimsley

SS Grimsley is in a really weird spot since he loses access to flinch upon syncing and his sync nuke isn't all that impressive considering the shafted BP due to being a Mega sync on top of his multiplier being Inertia which he raises very slowly with Fast-Track 2. Thanks to Steven, these problems are solved since Steven ends up beng able to buff Grimsley's speed to hit that Inertia nuke and the buffs Steven provides ends up covering for what Grimsley lacks.

CRESSELIA: SC Steven, Masked Royal, Misty

I initially wanted to do this with Nanu and an attack buffer, but figured that I wanted to avoid flinch spam as much as possible for this showcase. Masked Royal becomes a very strong beneficiary of SC Steven's kit as SC Steven is able to quickly setup for both Royal's Defense and Attack based debuff multipliers since Royal takes a while to not only buff himself up but apply the debuffs himself. Brute forcing through 80% damage resistance without crit is pretty nuts. We also make use of Steven's one-time resilience to block out Thunder Wave. Misty is here to just make sure the team doesn't fold to Cress' syncs and Icy Winds.

    TERRAKION: SC Steven, Tate, Will

While I did say that I wanted to avoid flinch spam, Terrakion hits too hard to really allow him to run around unchecked. As such, I brought along Will. Tate is our only real source of big Physical Psychic damage so having him as the beneficiary for SC Steven against Terrakion was a no-brainer. Tate ends up doing really good damage with his high attack stat and strong sync mults so we end up bruteforcing with him against Terrakion's damage resistance. Will ends up being helpful too with Confuse Ray making it a lot easier to get Tate's Interference Sync off. I'd also like to mention that Tate should probably have Critical Strike 2 for this clear, I just didn't want to take off his Wise Entry 1 just yet.

    AZELF: SC Steven, Guzma, Regirock

Guzma is pretty much the bottom barrel when it comes to Bug DPS, but thanks to SC Steven's tools he's able to get into damage ranges to quickly dispatch Azelf. Regirock is here to fill in Guzma's attack to +6 before the first sync and being an Impervious tank helps in withstanding Azelf's offensive barrage.

MOLTRES: SC Steven, Nessa, Tech Kabutops

Getting through Moltres flinchless even with weather usually entails a strong tank or a lot of damage coming out from your end. This clear just barely hits the latter. Thanks to SC Steven's tools Nessa is able to deal enough damage that even an eggmon like Tech Kabutops serves as a good enough tank for this fight. SC Steven also has the benefit of setting Restrain so the first sync with Nessa ends up having her innate sync multiplier enabled. Thanks to Steven's SEUN we are able to sync nuke bar 2 and finish it off with a Razor Shell even without needing to setup Restrain since there's no room to. I chose Tech Kabutops over Tech Blastoise for the simple fact that it's just defensively better, although it already having investment to 5* and potentially omnibuffing itself with Ancient Power is a big plus. I ended up not needing the rain multiplier anyway.

COBALION: SC Steven, Blaine, Supp Onix

SC Steven's debuff severely ruin Cobalion to the point that I'm able to tank with Support Onix. Blaine gets to oneshot bars nicely, and thanks to the debuffs ends up being able to clutch out the last bar.

    LATIAS: SC Steven, Iris, Valerie

SC Steven does nicely to really just dumpster Latias' Fluid Fortification with all his debuffs. Iris is here to help out mainly on bar 1, and Valerie more or less can take care of the rest. Valerie ends up really appreciating SC Steven's attack buffs since her biggest issue against Latias are facing buffed Physical Attacks which her low Defense does not appreciate at all. This comes in especially handy for the Bar 3 Earthquake. Just like with Uxie, we make use of B-Leer upon entry to Bar 2 in order to apply No Evasion so that we can comfortably beat back the evasion buffs with no risk.

  2. Using Healthy Healing to conserve Power Reserves range for Phoebe is really ingenious. Really cool!

  3. Thanks for the in-depth showcase, I'm definitely convinced. Seems super convenient to have quick debuffs at the start and on-demand SE-Up

  4. Oh this is great stuff! Thanks for the thorough Steven rundown, especially at 1/5!
