If you’ve seen my posts from the past few weeks, you know I’m giving Dragonite different regional gimmicks, since Dragonite is the only pseudo-legendary (excluding the most recent two) to not have a gimmick. This week it’s the gimmick that no pseudo-legendary received: Gigantamax!
**Gigantamax Dragonite**
**Max Move:** G-Max Imperial Rage
**Type:** Dragon
**Description:** A Dragon-type attack that Gigantamax Dragonite uses. This move deals hits all Pokémon for neutral damage regardless of their typing.
**Pokédex Entry:** Gigantamax energy has increased this Pokémon’s haughtiness. It demands tribute from other Pokémon, and has been styled as the Lord of All Dragons.
In terms of its design, Gigantamax Dragonite is inspired by mythical Germanic dragons such as Fafnir, as well as dragons like Smaug from Tolkien’s legendarium. Its Max Move, G-Max Imperial Rage, is another play on a concept I attempted to explore with [Mega Dragonite](https://www.reddit.com/r/stunfisk/comments/11svbyq/what_if_dragonite_got_a_gimmick_week_1_mega/) and implemented with [Dragonite’s Z-Move](https://www.reddit.com/r/stunfisk/comments/11zkwlt/what_if_dragonite_got_a_gimmick_week_2/). Unlike the Z-Move, Imperial Rage will always deal neutral damage. It’s meant to be a solid Max Move you can always click, but with the drawback of not granting a secondary effect like other Z-Moves, and never being able to deal super effective damage.
Let me know what you think of Gigantamax Dragonite. Would this be worthy of using over plain old Dynamax? Note that only Kantonian Dragonite can Gigantamax, Galarian Dragonite (who will be posted next week) can only Dynamax, following the trend of Kantonian and Galarian Meowth.
