Nintendo Switch

My Switch Got Ran over by an SUV… and lived (story inside)

I had my OLED Switch on the dash of my car. Side note, I was just replaying all of Breath of the Wild to get ready for Tears of the Kingdom and was 1/2 way through the Champions Ballad. Anyway, I took a hard turn right and the Switch FLEW out the window and hit the road. Mind you, I sold my launch day Switch to upgrade to OLED last year, so this was a pretty new model.

I said, “MY SWITCH,” as I reached for it but to no avail. I immediately pulled to the side of the road, got out, and started walking toward it.

I saw a car coming, but it straddled it (whew).

The next one though… road ride over it. I picked it up and it was jacked.

The joycons were popped off, the screen was cracked. I thought it was done

When I got it home, I pulled the cracked screen protector off and to my surprise the actual screen was not broken. In fact it turned on AMD WORKED.

I just need to get some new joycons, new screen protector, and a cover-case, and this system will be back in action.

Thanks for reading and HAVE FUN playing Tears of the Kingdom

PS: I’m giving this one to my kids and I pre-ordered the Zelda TOTC OLED Model.

This switch will go to become a legend, hand in hand with the Nokia phones and the gameboy that survived the Gulf War

This is an amazing story and I’m very glad you shared it. I will save it and show people when they doubt the story!

  4. LongFluffyDragon

That is nuts. How is the battery, card slots, and USB?

  5. voltvirus

Damn, dude super lucky, glad it’s not toast

  6. SimSamurai13

The oled is made of higher quality plastic as well as the front of the console being made of metal this time, probably helped alot with it holding up as well as it did

OLED seems to have slightly better build quality, the V2 just feel very flimsy, I mean really flimsy as just a snap and it’s done.

Nothing is stronger than a Nintendo console. NOTHING.

  9. I remember when my friend accidentally left his GBA in his picket while doing laundry funnybthibg is it still worked after. Nintendo makes sone resilient products sometimes

Be careful of the battery, don’t leave it in the dock overnight or charging while you’re not around for now.

Want to make sure the battery isn’t damaged and going to blow up 😅

Heh, this is a fun story, OP, appreciate you sharing. Well, I can’t speak for the durability of the consoles, but I once dropped a Switch gaming cartridge (Smash Ultimate) fully submerged in water for a few seconds. After drying it with a paper towel, it still worked (and still does years later)

People don’t always realize that cars aren’t that heavy when they drive over something. Especially something flat like a Switch.

“But an SUV weighs 2 tons!”

Yes, but that weight is spread out over a fairly large surface area. Take that 2 tons and divide it by 4 wheels. 1000 lbs per wheel.

    “That’s still heavy!”

Not until you look at the surface area of the tire. Let’s take the tire size on my wife’s SUV, 225/65R17. That’s a 225mm wide tire at it’s widest part, on a 17 inch rim. The 65 is a percent of the width, as the tire profile height, about 145mm.

So we have a tire that’s about 9 inches wide (with deflection) and when inflated correctly covering about 4 inches of asphalt. That’s 36 square inches of contact patch of the tire. That 1000 pounds per wheel is just 28 pounds per square inch, which is also the proper inflation pressure for her tires.

A lot of factors can play into the destructive power though. Was the wheel accelerating or decelerating? How rough or uneven was the road surface. How flat was the object.

On occasion though, a flat object like a Switch (minus those poor joycons) on a flat road can be likely to survive such an encounter, and why videos like “This Phone Survived a HUMMER Driving Over It” are complete hooey.

Gratz on your new Zelda Switch!

I’m glad it survived but why on Earth are you putting valuable things on the dash with the window open?

  14. Extreme-Use-272

I dropped my switch into my bathtub and it died 😭

  15. Randomman2789

And this is why I have a travel switch.

These Nintendo stability updates are incredible

  18. toolsofpwnage

It’s the stability updates that saved it

  19. Give your kids the shiny new one, keep the one with a story. Come on, buddy.

  20. I remember watching someone do a durability test with the switch where they dropped it out of a helicopter and it survived. These things are shockingly durable.

KRB’s Switch got run over by an SUV…. doesn’t have the same ring as Grandma getting run over by Santa’s Reindeer…. sorry Doc.

  22. Thunderlord220

I feel this story needs en explanation. To the tune of “grandma got ran over by a reindeer”.

  23. In the future don’t put anything on the dash of the car, especially when you have a window open.
