Nintendo Switch

What if instead of the simple black loading screen, games had an intro video like Wii Channels?

Hi everyone!

I recently had an idea that I think would be really cool for the Nintendo Switch. Instead of having a black loading screen when you open a game, what if there was a video like the Wii channels used to have?

Imagine opening up The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and, instead of waiting with this:

We had this:

Here is an example of other Wii Channel intros: [Wii Disc Channel Game Intros](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYf9K7CXITs&t=4s&ab_channel=RWT)

Imagine opening up Super Mario Odyssey and hearing the voice of Mario saying the name

What if the switch had the UI of the 3DS is a better question

I really do miss the charm of the UI of the Wii, along with the various channels.

    The Switch lacks charm.

What if? Then they would take longer to get to the actual game.

One of the things I really like about the Switch is how quick it is to simply turn on and get to the game. No intro to the console, no warming up music. Just good, ole fashioned. Stick game in, turn console on, click on game and you’re there. It’s like the NES-N64 days and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

It would be cool the first time and then get tedious.

I like being able to get into games extremely quickly

Waste of time. Get me into the gane, not frills around the edges.

Why are people here thinking it would take longer to get to the game, you’re just talking about filling the black loading screen and time it would take anyway with something more interesting aren’t you?
Btw I always loved the Skyward Sword intro on the Wii and often waited to press start lol. Pretty sure Mario does say Super Mario Odyssey though

You know this very thing is something that really stood out to me day 1, with BOTW. I thought it was so cool the little loading screen on Wii U with the jingle that goes along with it. And then you see on switch when booting it up it’s just… nothingness. It really does speak to the emptiness and lack of any personality the switch has had over all of its years in so many ways too. A real shame, and has lended itself 6 years later to fans spinning up “what ifs” like this instead of nintendo just putting a little more of their typical charm into their latest and greatest product. Like not even themes exist! Still!

I actually wouldn’t mind that. Someone should make that on YouTube

That sounds like what the Wii U does when you open a game. Anyway I’d rather have my game load faster

Damn, this made me realize I can still clearly hear in my head Smash Brawl’s channel intro haha

Like themes, if it makes the loading longer, it’s not worth it.

I like the plug and play mentality of the Switch. The name of the game is the game, not splash screens or themes.

Or at least like the Wii U how it was a still image of the game but it had a jingle

PS5 has done it the proper way. You launch the game and the wallpaper image of the game stays on until the game loads… which is pretty freaking fast anyway.

The Wii U had exactly this feature, although these screens were typically simpler for obvious reasons. It’s probably best to keep the OS as simple as possible and avoid requiring extra, quirky assets for your platform’s features

It would make absolutely no difference to me.

This is not a feature I miss.
