Not necessarily. If you don’t know what you’re doing, it can be really weird, difficult and “unfair” but once you understand how to actually play it and the mechanics behind it, you’d see it’s better than you think. You may not like it, but you probably won’t hate it like you do now

That’s a 43% win rate. Typically if u can average 48-50% average u can make Ace for a rank. I’m currently at 653 wins in 1230 battles which is a 53% win and I’m currently witting at 2420. Which is Ace rank when u break 2000 and Veteran at 2500. I’ve never hit Veteran in the first 2 seasons of pvp (both times Ace). Lots of season left though. Little cup has done me wonders…. I was at 2050 going into little cup and now 5 days later I sit at 2420. Bronzor XL has been the difference. Last season I had a non xl bronzor and didn’t do nearly as well.

I would say if your new to the mode also visit pvpoke.com and check out rankings for each leauge as well. That will give you an idea of what pokemon you want!
In addition to that when choosing pokemon for a team Google them + pokemon go.
The gameinfo and game press results at the top will provide you the best moves for pvp, and all sorts of information to help you learn how to play GBL!
I would also try to do your biggest investments of Time and Effort into Greate League and Ultra Leauge. Those two are the easiest to enter and be competitive. I would avoid the meta cups like small, element, and others. They are full of very “meta” play that probably isn’t fun for a new comer.
Lastly, I’d recommend checking out Jonkus on YouTube, he has a series called road to glory where he takes a new account all the way to legend!
