It’s regional exclusive to New Zealand.

they were available worldwide on the Hoenn Tour, but I think that’s the only time I’ve seen one

Now that the released it globally for hoenn tour, I wouldnt be surprised to see it reappear again for go fest this year or next…. Once niantic pops the exclusivity bubble on some of these Pokémon, they are more likely to reappear in subsequent events
Find someone who did the Hoenn event and has one to trade.

I just hatched one from a 10k egg. Was really surprised. Got and hatched the egg in Texas.
My wife, who doesn’t play PokémonGo as often as I do, randomly hatched one the other day.
I was in a separate room and heard her say “I just hatched a rel-a-canth???” … as soon as she said that I came RUNNING into the room just to see it with my own eyes. Sure enough, she hatched it. She graciously traded it to me after she said she didn’t need it LOL.
Pray it’s in this year’s Go Fest or swim to New Zealand.
Should’ve been here during Hoenn Tour. Now, you gotta go to New Zealand to get one

The pacific islands around New Zealand have him too! I got mine in Samoa, so I’d guess you might be able to get him in other surrounding islands like Fiji and whatnot.

Unfortunately the only time it was widely available was in 10km eggs in Hoenn Tour.
Although widely available is a stretch. 10km eggs is a lot of walking, and it was still heavy RNG. I am still mad it wasn’t available in raids like the regional exclusives for Kanto and Johto tours.
I managed to get one when they were in eggs for the tour. I would imagine they will be available globally again at some point. Once they are once it seems like they bring them back around more. You could also see if anyone had an extra one locally.

They were in an event during covid once. Liverpool i think. Got 20 of them back then. Still the one people ask for to trade most often.
Go to New Zealand or get dummy lucky during the Hoenn Tour at the start of the year and hatch it out of a specific egg you needed to make room to get before the event and also knowing that it’s in the eggs before the last hour of the event because why the fuck would Nianshit do anything other than useless work?

They were available to hatch from 10km during the Hoenn tour worldwide but they are normally region locked to New Zealand. Your best chance to get one would be to have a friend trade you a spare one. Maybe out a request in some Campfire groups near you to see if someone would trade you one. They’re pretty valuable in a sense, so try to offer up a legendary in return if you’re able. It might entice someone who otherwise wouldn’t trade away a spare one.

If you didn’t get him from a ten k egg during the primal event, hes only found in new zealand.
Best bet is to find someone who has an extra one and trade for it.
