I don’t get the dislike of her voice. I felt Zelda was great in Botw and now Totk.

All the voices were fine and fit their characters well.

Not a fan, but some of that is due to awkward writing for all of the characters I think. Had to change it to Japanese so that if the VO is cheesy, I won’t be able to tell 😛

I was surprised that Zelda had voice acting when I booted up the game, followed by an immediate dislike of her voice

  4. TimeTravellerZero

Honestly, Link had the best voice acting.

They’re just murals Zelda. Calm down

  6. Stykerius

The English voice acting of Zelda sounded really awkward, within 10 seconds of hearing it I switched to Japanese.

  7. Not a fan. Not sure this was her fault but a terrible performance nonetheless

Whiny, weak, always sounding like she’s on the verge of tears – terrible.

Awfully mismatched voice with some truly wooden delivery. Genuinely couldn’t tell if those murals at the start were exciting or terrifying her.

Regarding some (all?) the comments, I guess I’ve heard so many heavily dramatized voices in games, anime etc. from all sorts of roles over the years (in English and definitely Japanese) I guess I just don’t care if it comes across as an exaggerated character in some way. That’s just how ‘Zelda’ is to me. It seems I’m quite receptive to what’s conveyed in animation VA, within reason. She’s overly dramatic and wets her pants over historical shit. That just doesn’t bother me in the context of the game.

  10. I love the sound of her voice but she always sounds like on the brink of tears the moment she opens her mouth.

I wonder if this is intentional to contrast with how cool and collected Link is.

Her voice acting is my least favorite thing about both games.

Just sounds like an American or Canadian doing a poor imitation of an English accent that sounds uncomfortably forced. Should have just got an English voice actor.

  13. Galactus1701

I barely started the game, but Zelda was so excited when she found the Nag Hammadi codices under the castle. She sounds like an aspiring scholar and someone really interested in Hylian history and her own genealogy.

I mean..anyone who gets a job like that probably has their life changed, yeah

  15. porgy_tirebiter

Unpopular opinion: I wish this series had continued its tradition of not having voice acting.

  16. realblush

Nothing against her, I’m sure she is a lovely person, but Zelda’s voice acting is… not good. Seems to be more like bad direction than lack of skill though

Her delivery of the lines are just as flat and dull as in the first game. I switched the VO to Japanese immediately.

Honestly, she’s a terrible choice for the role and I’m offended that they forced me to hear Zelda’s first lines in the game in English. IIRC BotW let me choose language before any voice lines were uttered, TotK threw me right in.

She’s supposed to be what, 18/19 in this game? Why does she sound like a 30 year-old character in Downton Abbey?

  19. Burntfruitypebble

I hate this Zelda’s voice. It feels so forced and unnatural.

  20. TherearenoGreyJedi

Shame she dosnt act Zelda very well.

She treats her like she isn’t a 16 year old girl.

  21. SassyGumpert

The first thing I did was set it to Japanese. Both BotW and TotK have awful vocal performances.

  22. wowitzer

Yeah I switched over to Japanese in BotW. Glad this isn’t a controversial opinion anymore.

The Japanese VA wasn’t anything spectacular. The language barrier just added a good buffer.

If only they could have consulted whoever directs Fromsoftware’s voice acting. The English voices in those games are on point.

  23. Pazaak__

I’m sorry to those who are fans of zeldas voice, but holy fuck I find it terrible!

  24. darmani_97

Not hating on this actress or anyone involved in the english dub but something about the voices feel…off, I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.
Both BOTW and TOTK are literally the only pieces of entertainment where I prefer the latinamerican spanish dub.
And my second choice would be the japanese one.

  25. TrollChef

To be honest, the Voice Acting across the board for both games just sounds like a bad anime dub. I would have thought Nintendo could have pitched for something which didn’t sound so painfully generic.
