Why would they, people are still willing to buy them at that price.

  2. generic_tablet275

Well, I mean… this shouldn’t be surprising. They’re still selling 10 yr-old New Super Mario Bros U and Mario Kart 8 for $50. They keep pumping out old ports like Metroid Prime, Kirby Return to Dream Land, and Skyward Sword and slapping “Remastered!” and $35-40 price tags on those. Switch has sold more units than any Nintendo console ever. Why change the status quo? $$

  3. graymulligan

Alternate title “y’all are still willing to pay full price for systems and games, so we’ll keep charging it” – Nintendo.

Anyone with a basic understanding of how business works isn’t struggling with why they’re still charging full price.

  4. CountBleckwantedlove

They are a business focused on profits. Besides, everyone already got price cuts with inflation built in. I bought a Switch at launch for $300 in 2017. People spending $300 now would be the equivalent of $242.32 comparing March to March. Enjoy your $58 price cut and stop complaining! Lol

Nobody is paying full price now, adjusted for inflation. Even the OLED is $282 in March 2017 money adjusted for inflation. I wish people would calm down and think.

  5. Show-Bubbly

As a Nintendo stock holder, this is awesome.

  6. I’m guessing the manufacture price hasn’t dropped a huge amount either despite being six years old, with all the inflation and supply chain issues. Hell due to inflation it’s still cheaper today ($300 in 2017 is about $370 now).

Nintendo is pretty notorious for not wanting to take a loss on consoles, so they wouldn’t start doing it with the end-of-life Switch. They’ll do things like include digital games rather than drop the price if they want to boost sales.

  7. Rootilytoot

Queue the consumers who would jump in front of a train for Nintendo instead of looking out for their own self interest.

  8. Devadander

Do people think the switch is expensive? By far the cheapest current gen console, of course not comparing specs, but it’s current and actively supported.

  9. dainthomas

Meh, I still think it’s a good value. The exclusives run great and are really fun.

  10. Primal_Directive

Still cheaper than Sony or Microsoft 🤷🏻‍♂️

  11. Roka2112

I’m just glad they haven’t gone up, sheeshh

  12. candidateone

It’s not 7 years in, Switch just had its sixth anniversary two months ago. That’s still a damn long time to not have a price drop, so exaggerating it is a little silly.

  13. OtherwiseSelection66

The switch isn’t even expensive though, why would there be a price drop?

  14. It’s amazing that the Switch has never dropped in price yet sells so stupidly well. If it had dropped in price I may have been tempted to pick up an OLED to replace my launch Switch, but alas, I’ll just wait for Switch 2 instead.

  15. Yall worried about a price drop… but Nintendos’ current console is almost old enough to also be a retro console…

  16. Formal_Technology828

and in 7 more years when the next system comes out and the switch store closes down i wonder how people will react, probably the same to the 3ds/wii store ” it’s about time”

  17. Environmental-Ad-970

Inflation takes care of the price drop: its getting cheaper every year

  18. Cute-arii

The Switch Lite **IS** the price drop. It’s a cheaper option for a wider audience.

  19. Okay, fine. 30 fps on most games, 720 with “upscaling” on a system in 2023. On top of that, the Switches’ hardware is slightly better than hardware from 2006.

I’m just trying to defend you guys and demand that you have better hardware to play your games on. Nintendo has more than enough resources and money to give it to you.

  20. AtsignAmpersat

    7 years? 6 and change.

But it’s kind of unprecedented how well the games and system keep selling without a drop.

  21. Why would they? The price has only gone up for me. Same for other consoles. Not sure when we will see one drop in price again.

Well maybe Xbox. I could see that in the coming months.

  22. Rustyskeys

I don’t think they can at the moment. With inflation and all and not sure if they are still having a chip shortage. But Microsoft said they were raising their price on their system.

  23. SadnessMonster

That’s how Dad did it, that’s how America does it … and it’s worked out pretty well so far

  24. Pizzawing1

These articles are so silly. Nintendo’s not going to preemptively announce a price drop and say, “Hey don’t buy Switches for a few months because we may be dropping the price soon.”

They want to sell Switches at whatever price they are, and if they feel a need for a price drop to increase sales towards the twilight years of the console, they probably will

  25. It’s probably time to upgrade the hardware tho. Currently watching my girlfriend play tears of the kingdom on our TV and it’s lagging every time she uses the forging feature…. OLED was a good opportunity they missed out on. I would have purchased a new OLED in a heartbeat if it meant a significant improvement in hardware.

  26. Playernismo

Why do people get an oled its just a better screen and battery same hardware $650nzd is a bit steep

  27. anynonus

They just released a new Zelda. They plan on getting rich, not discounting their shit.

  28. aethervox_

Of course it depends on where you live but over those 7 years while true that Nintendo did not lower their prices everyone else have raised theirs pretty much while Switches remained around the same price.

Here the cheapest alternative console would be a Xbox Series S for roughly the same price as a V2 switch.
Depending on who you are the Series S could be a good deal, but for me who already has a better pc looking for a complimentary gaming system mainly for the exclusives the Switch is a great and very versatile option.
I think the entry price into the system is not too bad especially if we can consider the used market, I’d argue games being more expensive than other platforms with less frequent sales is a bigger issue.

  29. acewing905

It’s because of all the idiots who keep buying them anyway
(Including myself, of course. Bought a new one because the one I had started randomly erroring out, but now it no longer errors out)

  30. Efficient_Horse_4696

Not even a price drop, I’m just surprised they haven’t released a TV-only model of the Switch bundled with a Pro Controller for $149.99.

  31. CamperStacker

I don’t know if this is because of foreign currency changes, but Nintendo switch price in Australia has yo-yo’d over the 6 years. I believe it was $439 at launch then it went down to just $300 at most retailers just before COVID ([https://www.target.com.au/p/nintendo-switch-grey-joy-con-console-with-mario-kart-8-deluxe-bundle/64694313](https://www.target.com.au/p/nintendo-switch-grey-joy-con-console-with-mario-kart-8-deluxe-bundle/64694313)) now its back to RRP of $469 ever since COVID. Now its starting to drop again and you can get them for $409.

  32. DeputySean

Adjusted for inflation, it costs $75 less than 7 years ago.

  33. ThunderStruck115

I mean, this is the same company charging $60 for Skyward Sword in 2023, so I’m really not surprised.

  34. raphanum

It sucks but at least resellers often have sales

  35. psychebv

330$ for the switch oled is dirt cheap compared to other consoles. Sure you dont get eye candy games like horizon on playstation but for that low price its totally one of the best consoles when you factor price in and with releases like tears of the kingdom (and botw) you have enough entertainment

  36. Bajablastbukkake

I’m okay with it. According to my profile on my switch I’ve played it about 1200 hours since the release 6 years ago. I’m not sure the amount I’ve spent on games but a quick estimate is $330 for the switch and $550 for games and $70 for a pro controller. That’s less than 80 cents an hour for entertainment which I’m very happy with.

  37. I’m so glad I bought the Switch on launch and the SWOLED not long after it launched because those prices weren’t going to come down any time soon.

  38. onematchalatte

Why is this an issue that rises with Nintendo? Do other companies price-drop their consoles?

  39. 0172thetimeguy

There’s no lack of demand for the Switch so what reason is there to drop the price?

  40. Inflation since 2017 has been roughly 25%. Therefore, the Switch is roughly 20% cheaper in real terms than when it launched.

  41. rob1969reddit

There is yet to be a solid competitor in the handheld market. A few attempts have been made, but it seems Nintendo hit on the sweet-spot in a way nobody else has been able to equal or surpass. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time, but for now, Nintendo is king, and it is good to be king.

  42. minor_correction

They’ll always say “no plans” for a price drop right up until they officially announce the price drop. They won’t casually mention having some plans for it otherwise.

On the other hand, given their track record, you can believe them – probably no price drop coming soon.
