Someone pulled a slightly less convoluted version of this off on me when I was playing around with the gen 7 mons, Turns out Revelation Dance could still hit the Mega Gengar, Also Oricorio had just swapped in so I decided to take a page out of their book and Skill Swap Normalise onto my own Oricorio so I could hit the Gengar with a Super effective Revelation Dance thanks to the Dancer ability.

This strategy is the only reason i don't like playing national dex BH. Mega Gengar is to fast and u must have q very specific pokemon like Prankster Yveltal or Prankster Giratina with taunt is the only reliable way to fully counter mega normalzie Gengar
I know that Wolfey did quite well with it in tournament, but there’s a reason why no one else used it. It’s just not worth it, the surprise factor is gone since it’s known thanks to the tournament, it’s very slow and when vgc games last for only a few turns the game could end while it’s still being set up, and you need to be very good at the game to perform decently with it, other teams would easily outperform it so it’s just not worth it.
Aw jeez fam if only other ghost Pokemon existed, or phasing moves, or status moves,but I guess that's out of the picture…def u can't set up and kill the gengar before or magic bounce or taunt or play a ghost type that can freely swap or substitute
I don't know if its still true, but in generation 7 Revelation Dance's effect of matching the user's type overrode Normalize. This was relevant in hackmons due to how common normalize+entrainment Gengar was.

This actually works in singles, but only in nat dex ag on showdown, since it's the only format with all 3 of delcatty, mega gengar and runerigus legal
