*With a 5 wave Xenoblade Chronicles icon set right after the Tears of the Kingdom ones, I though this PSA might be useful for people in need of platinum points to complete their icons collection.* I’m sure most people here are aware, but I just found out recently because I was afraid to miss these icons.
If you go to https://my.nintendo.com/missions, you’s see many ways to get platinum points other than the regular recurring Nintendo Online missions on the Switch. I’ve been aware of these for some time and have done all the “Nintendo Service” missions. If you didn’t know this, that’s the easiest way to get more points, but they are not repeatable.
There are other game-specific “coins” you can get, but they are all linked to Nintendo mobile games: Fire Emblem Heroes, Super Mario Run and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. I don’t know if they serve any other purpose in-game (I don’t play these games), or if the different coins only indicate where to get them, but they increase your platinum points balance the same way, **so you can use them to get NSO icons**.
I couldn’t find direct information saying that these were regular platinum points, and initially I didn’t want to install these games on my phone, but I found lots posts suggesting that farming FE: Heroes was the best way to get points, so I decided to install it anyway and it worked fine.
There are lots of articles explaining how to effectively get points quickly in FE: Heroes, so I won’t go into detail (tl;dr; turn on auto-battle and skip all animations). But the other thing I didn’t find out was how to get the points after finishing the chapters, as I didn’t see anything in game. *You have to go to https://my.nintendo.com/missions and claim the points there.*
Just remember platinum points expire (I think in 6 months?) so you probably shouldn’t hoard them. I *think* you can wait as long as you want to claim the points on My Nintendo page after finishing the mission, though (someone please correct me if I’m wrong). I’m just going to wait until I’m running low on points to play again. I got 200+ point very quickly and without effort so I’m not too worried.

What can you spend the points on other than icons?
Yep, the only difference between ‘game platinum points’ and ‘unlabeled platinum points’ is that you can’t use ‘game points’ from one phone game on rewards from another phone game.
I think it was suspected to be related to some Apple rule that iOS games shouldn’t give you advantages in other iOS games.
You can auto battle in the fire emblem mobile game for infinite coins
180 plat coins a week by doing 100 camper requests in Animal Crossing Pocket Camp (literally no effort) only reason why I keep the damn game installed. I’m sitting on like 12k points right now and just spent 3k on a bunch of random stuff lol
You can claim the points in FE:Heroes by going to Quests & Missions and tapping the shield in the top right
