Nintendo Switch

Minecraft performance on Switch

If Microsoft is going to have Minecraft on the Switch, updated and everything, then they need to optimize it. You shouldn’t need to turn down settings on a console for MINECRAFT. I mean, you can turn it down a little but to have even decent performance you need to turn down a lot of settings. It’s also quite funny to me how something like Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom runs better then a phone version of Minecraft on the Switch. No one should have to pay 30$ for a worse performing version then cell phones, which only costs 7$.

Agreed. Minecraft on the switch is abysmal.

The only areas that gave me trouble was riding a boat near a mountain, so I just returned to land and it was fine again.

Minecraft used to run everywhere, I remember playing it on an old intel atom + 2gb ram netbook, but naturally after a zillion updates even a lightweight game of simple geometry like this one will become a memory hog that will test the latest graphics cards. Don’t blame the perfectly capable Switch hardware, blame the game that’s been squeezed for more than 14 years.

What do you do on there? I played hours on it and it ran fine.

Unless its TNT. Thats always a reasonable cause.

    Cellphones have better processors

FWIW I have the original switch edition and the newer version and the switch edition runs way better (is no longer available for purchase but this shows it’s not base Minecraft as much as all the add ons over the years that have created complexity and slowness)

Something to add on is we really shouldn’t have to Nintendo switch online just to connect to servers

I’ve said this on multiple posts like this before but ill say it again. It’s very embarrassing how a billion dollar company can’t use that money and resources to make the Switch version run well. Phones from 2013 could probably run Minecraft better than the switch version

  9. I remember Minecraft beta and my first world. I miss it. Those were simpler times

The original console editions of Minecraft are so good, it’s really unfortunate that they’re not sold anymore for Switch or any of the current-gen consoles. This Bedrock version has been rough ever since it launched and has only gotten worse.

Looks like even Minecraft needs to hit the gym and shed some memory weight!

I haven’t played it in months and there’s been a few updates since then yet in the past I never had any real problems. The only issue I had as the horse color glitch that impacted multiple consoles I believe.

If you cfw your switch and add android it performs a bit better even without overclocking. The switch port isn’t optimized which was pointed out by minecraft youtubers like ibxtoycat.

  14. This isn’t really a Switch problem. Minecraft is an extremely, extremely heavy game. I’ve lost two 500+ hour worlds on my PS4 due to corruption because of the file size—and it was just me playing solo. You can play it comfortably for a bit on most consoles, but after awhile the file just gets too big and convoluted. The only device that will run Minecraft well is a gigaboosted PC, and even then I’ve heard of people running into problems. It’s a shame because it’s a lovely game, but it’s just too heavy.

i can run that on retroid pocket flip too.

Haha, Minecraft has been squeezing our devices longer than some of us have been alive!

That’s just Bedrock for you, it’s terrible performance wise no matter the system is on

Luckily like others have said I have the original Nintendo Switch version that came out before Bedrock and it runs far better

The worst part about bedrock to me are the menus, they are so damn slow and clunky

It used to be a lot better. I was holding off on updating it for a long time, but eventually I was forced to update after a system firmware update made the base game refuse to launch.

  20. I’ll go ahead and ask while I’m here – my kids want Minecraft since all their friends have and play it – is either version (original or deluxe) worth it, or should I look at it for a different platform? They basically just want to tool around in sandbox mode a bit.

I do have an Xbox One, but Switch is ideal since that’s the “family” console.

  21. Performance is okay for me, but flipping LOGIN every time. And now it’s BETTER. Five or more years ago it’s has much more troubles.

I miss Minecraft on 3DS, where you just turn it on and play. I was having much more fun with my wife there.

But now even starting the game is tedious. And the “universal” menu… The 3DS had ideal menus.

    God, I hate Microsoft.

Honestly, I would just be happy it if did not crash every 30mins. I stopped playing it about 1yr ago…

Have any updates in the last year reduced crashing??
