Happy birthday to a underrated and strangest Zelda game.
It had bittersweet ending tho.
The_Red_Curtain
happy 30th to my GOAT game, this is where it all started for me!
BelBivDaHoe
My favorite and the first one I finished. LADX the GOAT
esushi
Moved me more than any other game.
Dukemon102
My 2nd favorite 2D Zelda and a classic worth experiencing, either with the remake or the DX version on NSO (Although I prefer the remake because pausing for inventory gets annoying on GBC).
IamEclipse
I remember playing this in 2020 and the ending did my existential crisis absolutely no favours.
Great game – highly recommend.

First Zelda game I beat way back on the Gameboy, and still one of my favourites.
I’m always impressed they got such a game on the Gameboy.
vandilx
I was in junior high when this came out.
It was amazing to see a Gameboy game have elements from a SNES game (A Link to the Past) and execute them so well. The jump feather and 2D segments were also fun. Nintendo could have easily just shipped us Zelda 1 and we would have been happy, but an entirely new game with a fun theme was incredible.
When the DX version came out, many people double-dipped to play it in color and see the Color Dungeon.
When the Switch version came out, it was a no-brainer to pick it up and explore Koholint Island with new graphics, and nostalgia, as I have many more years under my belt since the DX version.

Jokes on you sucka! I’m older than that.
O-Mesmerine
i never would have thought at 5 years old playing this game in 30 years people will be able to make a calculator in zelda
Rae_Regenbogen
This makes me feel so old!!! 👵🏻
T0astInTheShell
The very first video game I ever played. My cousin’s GC Color was lying around, I thought it was a toy when I was a kid and turned it on, LADX was inside. The music and atmosphere instantly mesmerized me. I would just wander around Koholint for hours, and never beat the game until many years later. Link’s Awakening is and always will be my favorite video game ever.

Marin is out there singing to someone right now -cries-

Played in on my cousin’s gameboy. Hooked with Zelda ever since.
Mabans
My back hurts. Think I’ll sit down and play.
Malooka5432
I’ve played the remake twice through, such an amazing game.
FamiliarCatfish
My absolute favorite game in the series. Christmas of 1997, my grandma gave all of us grandkids each our own Game Boy Pocket and a game to go with it. I just so happened to get Link’s Awakening.
Baron-Brr
Just got the remaster yesterday. Ferb, I know what we’re gonna do today.
OwnManagement
And still a Top 3 Zelda game.
justsomezombie
this is probably my favorite game just based on how it makes me feel when I play it. this is the type of zelda game I wish we got more frequently.
fritziron
First Zelda game when I was a kid. Never finished it because my original was sold in a garage sale, I just wish Nintendo would let us purchase the original DX version on the Switch.
Mantasreddit
First one I played. It was in 1999, on my Game Boy Color.
A magical experience that never gets old when I replay it!
witwebolte41
Nah it just came out a few years ago when I was in high school.
Oh. Oh no…
WhiteKenny
I still have my original cart that I bought back when it was released, with my original save data on it.
The OG version, never had a GBC so I didn’t have the DX version.
NukaCola_Noir
This was my very first Zelda game and still one of my favorites. I’ve played every version of it and I love them all.
kfed23
One of my favorite Zelda’s. I couldn’t put it down when it came out
prematurely_bald
My favorite Zelda game
shrek3onDVDandBluray
Is the remake any good?
DoctorWock
This will always be my favorite Zelda. The game just oozes charm. I’ll never forget playing all of the instruments at the egg for the first time. That ending was absolutely perfect too. Would do anything for a return to that old art style.
Willowred19
The Windfish was my first Zelda tattoo. This game has a special spot in my heart.
igoticecream
Best game ever, 2019 version included
Kuro013
How is the remake? Is it worth to pay full price for it or am I better off playing the og?
speedlimits65
i remember learning about the select glitch in the original gameboy version and seeing what weird places and stuff i could do. i was so upset when dx and the switch version didnt include it. i get it, but i miss it 🙁
XxZannexX
This was first Zelda game I ever played. It was too far over my head when I first tried it. Didn’t beat it until decades later. My second favorite Zelda game only behind Majoras Mask.
Pasu91
Links Awakening, A Link to the past, OoT and Majoras Mask are the only videos games in general I replay on a regular basis. So much love.
ripnetuk
This (or the colour remake) was my first Zelda title – i had just started my first job, and was on a work trip and saw the gameboy color in Woolworths – as a long term owner of the OG gameboy, that thing was beautiful – slim, only needed 2 batteries, faster CPU and COLOUR!
Of course I had to get a colour game to show it off, so I chose LA at random.
I was hooked from then on, and love all the 3d ones, but this (and Minish Cap) remains my personal favourite.
