My plan is to see what the research tasks are before I commit to buying the ticket for a second Cosmog even though the candies would be worth it the thing with me is I've completely quit go battle league I haven't even started yet and I'm not sure I want to for me Lunala, Solagleo, and Nihilego are favorite legendary pokemon from the sun and moon Era in pokemon so while the candy would be worth it just isn't enough for me to commit to buying the ticket for a second research I'm struggling to complete my shiny Jirachi masterwork special research from the Hoenn tour global event and we have alot of special research that I've already paid for leading into go fest so I don't want to end up with so much special research that I can't get new special research so until I know what the research tasks are going to be I just don't want to buy extra in case it looks like it's going to take me a long time to complete I'm 5 months into the special research for shiny Jirachi and what's preventing me from moving forward is not being able to find Kecleon I'm 2 out of 10 5 months in and at this point I don't know if I will ever be able to complete it so I don't want to spend the money on extra special research but once I have the candies I plan on getting Solagleo I started with Lunala

No Solgaleo isn't even good in pvp and neither is Lunala
Solgaleo doesn't have more usability. It's literally going up against metagross for steel. Metagross beats it, not to mention shadow and future mega. There is no way it's catching up. Lunala actually might be usable. Moongeist beam might and shadow claw could really boost it. There is no way solgaleo catches up to metagross. Neither will catch up to the psychics so there's no point in even mentioning that.
my other one was a 2* and totally not worth evolving so it's still a cosmog

I got blessed with a hundo Solgaleo. I have been walking it non stop. It's level 47.5 right now so I need 97 more XL candy. This nets a whopping 2 XL candy. Am I going to pay Niantic $5 for the equivalent of 2 XL candy? HELL NO!
** The research gives you 125 candy but it costs 25 to proceed to step 6 so you net 100 candy. Then you can get 1 XL for trading the Cosmoem. I'd rather get kicked in the pokeballs than give Niantic $5 for 2 XL candy.
By comparison solgaleo has a better typing than lunala and is overall safer to use because in the master league ghost and dark are everywhere which are lunala's two quad weaknesses.
I'm so excited tell you guys this but cedar point got struck by lightning and one of the ride actually got hit by the tornado make sure it stays safe in your area while you're playing Pokemon my sister actually went all the way out to East Toledo and she had golf ball-sized hail and the tornado right next to her just make sure to watch out and some power lines might be be down

The answer depends. I think it is if you raid enough to get the rare candies or want a lucky if each Evo.

Like, I hate niantic fucking over the community as much as you do my guy but you're paranoid and biased. And the fact you're using last year's data as a FULL expectation of this year's event is goofy and makes you look like a fool.

i logged in today and saw starry skies in my research then I opened up the shop I saw it was 5 bucks so I think someone gifted it to me? no idea lol.
I bought it cuz cosmic is my fav legendary Pokémon change my mind
I got a lousy Solgaleo the first time around. I did a lucky mirror trade and ended up with a 13/13/12, which was quite an improvement. I have it powered up to cp2496. This time around I am going for Lunala.
