A bit of an overreaction I think, but yeah. They do need to state something about it if it’s easily accesable.
Pokémon Go sucks more and more as time passes
I did a bit of research and came up with a link from The Friends of Brockwell Park, which is where Go Fest is being held.
https://www.friendsofbrockwellpark.org/accessibility/
So, the park itself has accommodations for the disabled. I’m not sure about “Greater London”, as that could be anywhere. If you do go, I recommend going early so your carers can either find good parking or you can beat the crowds to the bus stops, depending on what works best for you.
Check out ToS for the event 7.3 assumption of risk, you waive your rights for all risks. I don’t know how disabled you are but in your post you ask about buying two tickets. I’d assume you’d want two tickets to have a friend potentially help you with somethings.
I mean i don’t think go fest has ever been accessible for disabled so i don’t see the problem? just buy the global ticket and do it in your neighborhood/city this really isn’t discrimination and feels like an over reaction and to the other commentor you can’t sue niantic over this lol
They don’t care about disabled people-period. One of the executives Michael, actually suggested the disabled play other games in an interview. It’s so wrong, and he’s not getting enough backlash for that
They take time to reply calm down
Sigh. This doesn’t surprise me at all. During the original Go Fest, I had some questions similar to this as well. (I wasn’t attending but I knew fellow disabled folks could be impacted, so I figured it would be a good idea to ask – it could result in changes.)
Instead, their response to me started with, “I’m sorry for your illness.” (Like wheelchair users are all sick????)
It all went downhill from there. The responses basically turned into, “Too bad. We’re not going to do anything for you.”
This was the first big warning sign to me that Niantic does not care about disabled players.
Regarding question/answer #3: I don’t think able-bodied folks realize that for disabled people, we need to plan trips VERY EARLY.
We have to plan many times more than other people, and if there are limited resources like accommodations, flights, and transportation, then we REALLY have to start planning early.
There is often no “last-minute” trip plans for disabled folks. You either plan early or you don’t/can’t go at all.
I’m also a wheelchair user and have the exact same questions for Go Fest in London. I have asked on Twitter multiple times, tagging as many Pokemon GO related accounts as possible and not received a single response back. It’s completely unacceptable that this information is not displayed anywhere. I can only assume the silence is because they don’t care or they just want to brush it under the carpet because they haven’t bothered to check if their routes are accessible or not.
It’s so frustrating because I want to play the same as everyone else but I can’t go all the way to London just on the off-chance it’s suitable for a wheelchair.
It’s also frustrating to see some of the replies to this very reasonable and important thread telling us we are overreacting and should basically just deal with it.
