This looks like a pretty interesting blend of fantasy and sci-fi. I’ve only ever played Star Ocean 3 back in the PS2 days and came away with mixed feelings, to say the least. But I’ll be keeping an eye on this one.

I like the pixel characters on top of the super detailed backgrounds. I’m pretty pumped for this one, it fills the same kind of niche for me that the Ys games do.

That screenshot is making me wish/hope for a xenogears remake with enhanced disc 2. 🤞🙏

Was never really interested in Star Ocean before, but seeing this in the direct definitely piqued my interest.

God I have played so many hours of Star Ocean 1 and 2 over the years

My God this game looks amazing. I’ve never played a game in this series, should I play Star Ocean 1 R in the meantime? Since it is an old game, do you need a guide to play it? or is not needed?
I love all FF, DQ, Xenoblades, Persona, Octopath, etc…all good JRPG.
Let me know your opinions! thanks!

Looking forward to giving this a try! Super traditional JRPGs tend to burn me out quickly, but I really enjoy ones that have some unique little spin on them: whether that’s because of a subgenre like tactics RPGs/dungeon crawlers, or through having a different setting than the usual high fantasy one. Visually this looks really unique, and also I really like the mixture of sci-fi and fantasy for the setting, seems quite different to other JRPGs. I’m not mad into action combat but if it’s simple to control then it should be all good. Excited to try it out!

anyone know what Claude: Pangalactic Federation longsword looks like?

Not sure if anyone can help, but would this game appeal to someone that is a big fan of Xenoblade1 ?
It looks interesting and I’m very curious, but also unsure..

Definitely buying this.

Star Ocean the Second story was an excellent jrpg from the ps1 era, from the time where small initial releases actually made copies valuable later on: I still have mine, and it’s worth a pretty penny.
Knowledge from the first game is not reccomended, the game stands perfectly on its own.
It was my first introduction to many now common jrpg elements like free movement during battles (with AI controlled allies), multiple endings (100+ given that you can ship almost any character with any character, you’ll see 6ish in one playthrough), and point buy leveling (you buy individual skills that give stats, and buying combinations of skills can level active abilities like cooking, forging, and forging documents).
One of the best from little known ps1 gems, and certainly deserving of a remake.

Day one purchase for me. Even though I never played Second Story before and never finished First Departure on both PSP and my Switch.

I hope they keep the crafting in tact. I’m fine with updating it, but the essence of that system was soo fun back in the day. And you could get some amazing loot from doing it.

Everytime the debate of “Best Classic RPG” comes up and everyone throws Chronos Cross and FF7 in the ring (which are both fantastic), my top pick is ALWAYS Star Ocean the Second Story!
Immersive. Plenty of characters. A fun endgame. High replay value. Different in battle dialogue depending on the party combinations. There was nothing like it at the time.
Even for modern RPGs, only thing I can think that was this good was Divinity Origonal Sin 2.
I am so hyped about this!!!!

“Crawd has advanced forward.”
They’d better keep every drop of that clunky voice acting.

Does Star Ocean have any association with Star Tropics?
