The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the best-selling game of May 2023, instantly becoming the #2 best-selling title of 2023 year-to-date, despite only physical sales from Nintendo being included in the best-selling titles charts.

The early sales of this game were astoundingly good (It even surpassed Pokémon SV?). Zelda had never been a massive hit until BOTW, and TOTK just cemented the series as a giant seller.
Thank god, maybe this will prompt Pokémon to put a little more time into game development. I adore Pokémon and would love to see them make a world as gorgeous as TOTK’s, but I think something needs to force that into happening (such as being passed by the Zelda franchise).
Can anyone give a run down of the Tweets? Some reason i can’t see it on Twitter.
“Why won’t Nintendo just move on from the Switch”?
*Switch continuing to break records while being 6 years old*
Its funny how certain authorities believe that Nintendo isn’t a serious competitor in the gaming scene, when they get results like this almost every month.
According to his tweets, this is the Switch’s second best May of selling hardware, only after May 2020. Holy hell
Lol tears of the kingdom is so big it made breath of the wild return to the top 20 game sales in may wow
Because Nintendo knows a good thing when they have it! The Switch is like fine wine, it only gets better with age.
That is a lot of money… I want a piece of the pie
Well i’m glad your uncle at Nintendo made money, I guess we should be ashamed to ask for improved hardware now!
GOTY contender
Idk why but I was not expecting Hogwarts Legacy to be the title ahead of tears in YTD sales. Truly did not realize how popular that games was.
The switch is still a solid gaming experience
The more I play this game the better it becomes. Masterpiece
TotK reinvigorated my love of Zelda. I’m finally getting around to trying to finish Majora’s Mask. I ordered the Creating a Champion book and considered also getting Hyrule Historia. I even changed my phone notifications to the “get item” sound.
Great! Support polished great games!
Xbox needs games that are 10 out of 10 not average games
And I still had someone in a Starfield thread convinced that this game was some random Nintendo toss-away and not competition for GOTY
I’ve been a playstation gamer all my life, but I bought a switch oled totk bundle , and i’m loving every minute of it. What they managed to create on switch hardware is breath taking. The way lighting looks real, convincing you the sky is real, the water is water, honestly we don’t need better graphics if the mind believes what we’re seeing etc . The audio and music is also amazing. Gameplay superb.
It runs beautifuly on Lg oled, with smooth motion turned on, it feels to be running at 60 fps, much improved from the normal setting that feels a little choppy at 30 fps.
Is also worth noting that Nintendo makes up 35% of the top twenty selling games. No other publisher counts for more than 10% (EA and WB).
To the surprise of absolutely noone. What else was going to outsell Zelda in May 2023? Gollum? Forspoken DLC? Hogwarts Legacy Last-Gen edition?
That Mario movie sold a lot of switches and games. There’s like 3 Mario games that are super old in the top 20.
Yeah but I can’t see too many people buying it digitally: it is a whopping 16gb after all. (Before people start saying “I bought it digitally”, yes ik people did)
