Why did so many reputable sources say it was deliberate? These aren’t people with a blog with 12 followers who would post anything for a few likes, and they would have no reason to think it was anything but a glitch- they’ve never jumped to the conclusion of something being deliberate before without a good reason.
No, I think Niantic planned it, then panicked when they saw our reactions and realized this meant less people doing the things that give them money (I.E. going out to give them data to sell). They were upset we enjoyed it too much in a way they didn’t want. And they panicked.

I haven’t even opened up the app at all today due to the way that Niantic handled this. It would be one thing if this were an isolated case, but the first issue is that they initially lied that it was intentional. They lie all the time, so that’s bad enough… but there are many, many older bugs that Niantic not only refuses to fix, but even *acknowledge* on their support page.
Try reporting any bug through the app, and see if it does anything. It doesn’t. Even if multiple people report the same bug, Niantic ignores it and won’t even put it on the support page. The ability to report bugs through the app is a waste of time and might as well not even exist.
There are many bugs that could use fixing. Rocket Radars aren’t automatically equipped anymore, so unless people are aware of the bug and manually equip it, they keep fighting grunts over and over without facing a leader (ironic that there was a recent Rocket invasion, no?). Catch Assist on a Ultra/Best Buddy is broken when Native Refresh Rate is enabled, where it never awards excellent throws (this has been the case since early 2022). Ghost lobbies in raids have been present since 2020. The same update that expanded the spawn radius also introduced a new bug where visiting a remote gym doesn’t display your defender.
The list goes on and on and on… Pokémon Go dwarfs even Pokémon Red and Blue (an embarrassingly low bar) in terms of bugs. But at least Red/Blue had an excuse of being the first games. Pokémon Go doesn’t have that excuse. But instead of fixing these bugs, Niantic would rather continue to piss people off even more than they already have for over a year now and fix anything beneficial. These idiots can’t get their priorities straight.
So I haven’t had the urge to even open the app today because at this point, I’m forcing myself to play and that’s not good. I’m spending my free time playing older main series Pokémon games, which Niantic had nothing to do with.
And finally, let’s not forget this embarrassing quite from Michael Steranka (seriously, why is this guy not fired yet?):

I am about to be downvoted to oblivion, but I feel like this is almost too much. A happy place would be in the middle. Not roll it all the way back but compromise.
WHY- I don’t feel the need to go outside as much because I can always find plenty at my house (caught my 100 trade worth Pokémon without going outside). When walking I don’t pop an incense or a lure because I am already struggling to catch it all. Making these two items almost useless.
This is only my opinion. But I think it is fun for a bit (maybe an event or season bonus) but also has a few negative impacts.

I still can’t catch a ditto, never caught one. Friend of mine caught one with a carelessly tossed pokeball. I went for the same Litleo, used 2 golden raspberries and 2 ultra balls, great curveball throws and it ran away
