  1. From the review, it sounds like the co-op play is a standout and it might be a good game for parents/older siblings to play with younger kids.

Nooooooo I was so excited for this game

9 from Nintendo Life and Nintendo World Report.

It’s meant to be a lite game to mellow out to and just enjoy the visual presentation. Not every project requires “combat.”

My wife thinks this looks fun but was worried it would be too hard for her, so I’m glad to hear it’s on the easier side. Definitely looks like a good time. Also helps that it’s only $40. I’ll probably wait for a sale.

I love the art style and platformers and have been looking forward to this for this for a while so I’m glad it’s reviewing well. It’ll probably be a little easy for me but maybe that means I can convince my wife to play alongside me. Or my Mickey obsessed niece when she’s around.

I personally am very intrigued by the no combat angle. I played Metroid Dread and loved it, including many of the boss battles, but seeing repeat enemies every screen and some of the more samey boss battles got very old. It’s never my favorite part of a platformer so I don’t expect to miss it.

I’m planning on picking this up to play with my partner while smoking weed on the couch and being happy in love.

Buying this one. Looks like a really fun family game.

I thought they just used Rayman legends with mickey

  10. I love platformers and Metroidvanias, some of my favorite genres. Something about this game’s art style just irks me though.

It’s really really tough to look at games like DKC Tropical Freeze, and see how beautifully crafted every level is, how every platform you stand on makes sense with something in the background. Games like Metroid Dread, every thing in the forefront also makes sense with something in the background environment.

And then you see stuff like this, where it’s just floating rectangles and lines to stand on. Everything seems a little too blocky and rectangular, which is something I don’t associate with Disney movies or art style at all. I don’t know how they landed on this design. Imagine a Studio Ghibli based platformer if it ended up looking like this, people would be really upset.

I don’t know, it’s just tough to look at after knowing what good level design and world building actually looks like in 2D games. I picked up New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe on sale for $20 the past week and have been having a great time with that. Mario isn’t as refined as Donkey Kong or Metroid and still suffers from random floating disconnected platforms, but at least Mario games still hold more cohesion and the levels themselves pop visually with depth.

This game feels like it struggles visually to give enough depth to distinguish foreground platforming from background. Maybe I’m just being overly critical, but I feel like I expect something more artistic from an animation based company.

The art looks really good but as a “Real” game? No way can I spend $40 plus tax on a 2 days tops game. This is a game for toddlers and Dads 😅

I don’t like modern grading system. 7 for one might be 5 or 10 for others.

  13. Fun fact: Unity Engine (as expected). The cutscenes are taking whopping ~4.4GB from the entire size of the game.

  14. This game is “We have Rayman Origins at home”
