  1. The implications of this restoration for any MSU-1 patch is incredible. We could listen to almost perfect renditions of what uncompressed samples David Wise was hearing at the time.

This man is to thank for this effort: https://twitter.com/PrinceSamlet

He spent years tracking down the sounds Rare employees would have at the time, and followed the SNES sheet to a tee, and thanks to him we can hear what this music should have sounded like. Now all that’s left are for DKC2 and 3 .

This is amazing. Everything sounds so much more crisp and clear, there are even some areas you can hear a big difference between the original and the restored version. Thank you for sharing!

Forgive me for not understanding, but if we could hear the exact same thing on the SNES… then what’s the point of this? Why is this better than an actual recording?

These games had the best soundtrack of all time. Fear Factory, Gangplank Galleon, DK Island Swing, and the legendary Aquatic Ambience… it’s all so good!

I listen to DKC soundtrack sometimes when I study. Thanks for this.

I’m guessing getting MP3 files of this would be against many, many laws, so I’d have to do the work myself. Nonetheless, this is very much appreciated.

Man, going through that list I was really bad at predicting which songs would and would not be more impressive with the new quality. Who the fuck would have thought Candy’s Love Song and Misty Menace would have been standouts?

I’ve been following him for a while on his Youtube channel and I’m a big fan of his work on these tracks. However, I’m not sure these should be considered a “definitive OST”, largely since he doesn’t always arrange them in the way the originals were e.g. changing the pitch, volume or panning of a sample and he often removes tracks to re-do them, which sometimes changes how they sound.

It’s also probable that the original composers took compression into account when making these tracks, since some samples, when uncompressed (or maybe just the substitutes he uses) have a different sound and can change the impact they have in the track.

I’m not trying to diminish the quality of his work, though, which is amazing and I really enjoy almost all of his “restorations”.

I commend the effort and it’s great to hear these in such crisp quality, but I’m really attached to the compressed versions. There’s a restored version of Forest Interlude from DKC2 on Youtube, but I honestly like the compressed one better.

Is there a full download for this without youtubes compression bs?

  11. JoJoXGamer

The second I read this Stickerbrush Symphony started playing in my head

  12. sergypoo

This game has one of thee most iconic soundtracks in video game history.

  13. AceFan84

I love passion projects like this!!! This is truly some of the greatest video game music ever created and I’m glad it’s still so loved this many years later!

  14. ElDuderino_92

Aquatic ambience is my absolute favorite song in a game.

  15. [deleted]

Now if only we can restore the graphics to their uncompressed originals

  16. [deleted]

Still one of the best video game soundtracks in all of gaming history

  17. SimonCucho

this is the most half assed article i’ve ever read

    its a good project though

  18. Mashup artists everywhere just creamed their pants

  19. TheEjoty

Its all so so so beautiful. This game was my childhood and hearing it so crisp and clean just feels right.

I wish Gonintendo would have kept their mouth shut, this is how things get taken down by Nintendo’s copyright sharks. He’s still going through the other DK games and restoring them.
I’ve been following this guy’s youtube channel for a long time and his restorations are top notch. He even has download links for them in his description.

I would kill or probably seriously injure someone to have the DKC soundtracks on Spotify, especially Tropical Freeze. I don’t know how he managed to beat his already stellar score of the OG trilogy, but David Wise knocked it out of the park so hard.

  22. peetorskeetor

Are we able to download the full versions anywhere? So much nostalgia.

  23. thewhombler

Somebody did something similar to this with Banjo Kazooie by ripping the MIDI from the game files and recreating it in a modern DAW

  24. windwaker910

That Stickerbrush Symphony hittin just right

  25. tommaniacal

Is it weird I prefer the Game Boy Color version of the soundtrack?

  26. brilliantpants

Genuinely some of the greatest video game music of all time!!!

  27. Humanity has transcended. We are not ready for this

  28. yekNoM5555

The under water track is legendary to video game music.

  29. lizard81288

    Nice! too bad it seems the DKC2 tracks have no download option ;_;

  30. Narf-a-licious

this is so wonderful! Once I finally get an SD2SNES cartridge I want to hear this on my DKC!
