These are shitty patents. They patented *not having your character fall off of a moving object*, for christ sake. This is patent troll levels of bullshit and anyone defending it is out of their mind.

Ugg this feels slimy. Imagine if early impressionists tried to “patent” a certain type of brushstroke. So many great games probably wouldn’t exist if more companies pull this shit as most games are 60%+ full of straight-up copied stuff from other games and that extra 20-30% is what makes it really special.

… Nobody seems to notice that patents actually expose stuff that might otherwise be kept secret — and further they don’t make it so “nobody else can do this” but rather grant the holder the privilege of dictating the conditions on which it is used.
All these patents may actually *increase* innovation in the industry by enabling other companies to have access to the underlying stuff for purchase. That happens a lot more than you realize.

Patents in video games should be illegal

Now it happened! Nintendo patented physics. Get ready for Nintendo suing God.

Ah, yes. It’s been a while since we’ve had something for people to get unreasonably mad at Nintendo for doing despite the fact that it’s something literally every company on the planet does.

Why does such an evil company have to make such good games
Probably a reaction to Immortals, Fenyx Rising (among others)…
The loading screen thing reminds me of how Namco infamously [patented loading-screen minigames](https://kotaku.com/the-patent-on-loading-screen-mini-games-is-about-to-exp-1744705351) which only expired in 2015. It always amuses me what constitutes a patentable feature
Anti-Genshin maneuvers lol
