You, my friend, are a true pokemaster and I hope all is well with you. You also gave me my first ocean scatterbug this week and for that I am grateful.

For those who haven’t been following the news, the area around Lahaina, Maui, Hawai’i, U.S.A. has been ravaged by wildfires the past few days. People quite literally jumping into the ocean to escape the flames. Last I saw, 67 dead. A large chunk of historic downtown Lahaina is ashes.
I mean while it sucks that part of the island is pretty much non-existent anymore, the stops/gyms still survive.
I can tell you the picture from that postcard doesn’t match what it looks like now…
Save that postcard lol
While this says Lahaina on it, this is actually from Kaanapali Westin Villas which is more north than Lahaina. This actually didn’t burn in the fires though they were evacuated due to the closeness. 🙂
I wonder if there’s a way to flag stops as “memorials” to what was. Because I imagine very little of the Pokestop/Gym net there shows what is now after the wildfires, but they remain as a virtual reminder of the past.
Haha I have that same post card from when I went. I even went to the same time share. That’s crazy
I think they’re fine; I mean… Just look at the picture they sent you
This post is so wholesome
I have a Ukranian pogo friend, postcards from Kharkiv
Need this card
My pokemon go friends from Hawaii are still sending me gifts daily and I sure hope that means they’re ok.
My friend from Slovenia stopped sending gifts.
It’s just so awful, I can’t even watch the news
My cousins are in Lahaina rn. I have been to this hotel multiple times but not sure if they are this one now.
Their fine. They are not on mawie. My bad thought that was another island did not realize it was a town on maui
My husband and I were staying 6miles from Lahaina earlier this week. We biked from Napili all the way to Lahaina and ate at Mala restaurant (gone now). I was fortunate to have spun while I was there to pin as a memory. Tuesday, the power was completely out and we had no cell service. We went back into Lahaina to get some groceries but sadly had no service to play 🙁
Its surreal to have just seen it 10hrs before it’s gone.
We also biked to Baby Beach by the Judo church and there was a man selling fresh coconut from his truck. He jokingly said I would regret not buying any from him… and he’s absolutely right. I wished I bought his whole stock.
Just like someone in another comment, I think they should add a Memorial feature on poke stops that have endured a disaster. Give out special tasks/unique rewards. I also like the idea of, after spinning a memorial, within a x hour window a portion of in game purchases being donated to a local charity. And have that be active for receiving memorial postcards.
Edit: this resort/hotel did not get hit by the fires. But most likely they were without power since Tuesday morning. The bigger hotels had backup generators which allowed a lot of guests to charge their phones and have WiFi. However once there was no juice left, there was little guidance on what to do. Tuesday was absolute chaos with lines wrapping around grocery stores to buy food. I hope your friend is well and was able to evacuate. There was also only one single-car road to evacuate from and it’s a long drive 1.5hrs to Kahului.
I’ve only heard second-hand what the conditions were at these resorts. But most likely your friend is ok.
Was there a few months ago and stayed at this resort. Could have saved the gifts from being there previously. But still holy shit
