Sprinting to victory with Nemona (Johto Champion Stadium) [Pokemon Masters EX]

Pleasantly surprised that we got Nemona this early considering it took several more months for Gloria to open the Galar floodgates. No complaints here – I’m more than ecstatic that they chose SV’s main rival to lead the Paldean units. (The confidence in her popularity does tell me that she’s definitely getting several alts down the line, so I have to start saving already lol)

Nemona also signals the debut of a new mechanic for the game – the Sprint role, which seems to be focused on the Zinfogel-approved playstyle of sync acceleration. Aside from her TM which, on top of all the neat buffs it grants an ally, also reduces the sync countdown by 2, EXing a Sprint pair gives them the equivalent of Adrenaline 3 when they sync for the first time.

Her eight LA solos should tell you how she fares in Gauntlet, so I wanted to focus on Champion Stadium for this. Here’s how each battle went and the sync grids used:

Vs. While she isn’t a Tech unit, her sync still has an innate multiplier in Inertia. She has two other multipliers in her grid, and coupled with Soften Up 1 in her base kit, it makes for a pretty reliable sync nuke. Classic Elesa sets up the Static Shock multiplier as well as Electric Terrain to boost the sync damage even further, and she also adds in some Defense debuffs since Bug-weak Karen constantly buffs Defense.

At the same time, Nemona can help a frailer tank like Hilbert with her TM, since it gives endurance, regen, and damage guard with the click of a button. I also use the sync acceleration in her TM and pair it with CElesa’s own TM to reach second sync in a single turn – quite literally sprinting to the end of the battle lol.

Lear is pretty much a Sprint unit before the role existed so he has a lot of fun with all the sync acceleration shenanigans here. The faster pace lets him sync as quickly as possible as it’s the major source of damage for this fight. SS Elesa’s TM was a big deal back when she was first revealed since I believe she was the one who introduced on-demand sync acceleration, and while there are a lot more powerful TMs now, it still does its job well.

Just wanted to show another case of her TM helping a frail tank while also helping the main damage dealer by rushing to sync. SS Diantha in particular likes the faster pace since Rock Zone’s uptime isn’t that long.

Just for fun. A lot of EBEs use evasion to make the stage more difficult than it should be, so I figured I’d give one a taste of its own medicine lol. Nemona’s TM is also quite handy in protecting her from the AOE moves that would do quite a lot of damage to her otherwise.
