Pokemon Go announced their new season GO Battle League: HIdden Gems. With this we saw a ton of move updates including buffs to walrein, dunsparce, alolan sandslash, clefable, emolga, and others with a nerf to trevenant.
This week is great league, ultra league, and master league.
If you have been watching my channel for a while you will know that Swampert, Shadow Kanto Ninetales, and Togedemaru have helped me hit legend every season. THey are all so strong and now I am explaining why.

Man greninja is everyone s fan favourite and there's nothing need to get offended and also its not a random mon its a glass canon
The medi/lanturn core really hurt its relevance despite the great moveset. Just like toxapex, it can’t become meta when the meta directly counters it
Its best in the ultra league, where it has decent bulk, Dont feel like it suits the GL
this thing is almost useless…
It's very fun to use but it still gets smoked heavily by most of the meta lol.
That first game already goes completely against what you're trying to say. Despite being in a horrible match-up & making a huge misplay, your opponent underestimated Greninja & you literally beat one of its hardest counters. Sure you needed a boost to do it, but it's the fastest night slash spammer in the game, it will get boosts!
And I also don't think you can just judge its performance based on simulations. All it takes is one positive match-up where you can overfarm by just a few water shurikens & suddenly you get off 2 more hydro cannons into the next Pokemon that comes in.
Think about how busted shadow Charizard is these days, it's a similar situation.
I built a greninja for gl and i regret it. I only had one team that worked with it and too many medis and deoxys at 2000-2200. I also ran into a triple charm team with a double dark back.
It’s spammy, but is maybe one of the glassiest mons I’ve seen. Hydro cannon does 50.4% to a greninja.
I ran ninja regi and cres and it was really fun, of If Win lead they try to catch cannot with azu or Noctowl or other bulky Pokemon but then I can get regi and one shot them because they already enough low with cannon. Fun games, 50 50 won lose

Great league is saturated with either teams with Greninja or teams that counter it

So many ppl are hunting water types in general lately. I’ve been seeing a lot of venu + ampharos cores. Barely any char or stunfisk. I had to switch around my team because of it
It caused me real problems playing against it tbh. My team has been Noctowl, Jelli and stunfisk. Got to 2460, then this thing was released and killed me.
I caught about 500 froakie and evoked four of them none of the had water shiruken. What’s up with that?
I’m seeing mostly in my range a lot of ppl are running greninja in the lead… I’m like are you dumb?? Greninja is a fantastic closer but somewhere there’s a lanturn lurking

New content for a game that’s broken as this one is difficult so I do see if something new comes around they Will Milkshake that to the ground! Lol funny how so many get mislead by this! Dan, I love your videos but you made really questionable plays in this one.
In first match, you acknowledged that you made a mistake taking greninja as safe swap and repeated it again next match against licki! And forgot licki has grass knot when you have used it many times yourself. You shielded a medi’s power up punch when all his charge attacks were revealed previously. You put it then against lickis when there is a bastiodon in the back and you have DD. It’s really odd for a Dan video to be honest!
And what does it mean by you won only because you got boost. Thats why we use night slash. Because it has a chance to give the boost!
Shhh don't tell people it's overhyped, they might stop using it.. my scrafty has been feasting on frogs all week

This is a very decent Pokémon when you have shield advantage it’s almost like a metagross in the master league
Fun fact: Greninja loses the 1-0 and 2-1 shield scenarios against lanturn that is single moved with surf
I was running Lanturn medicham shadow alolan ninetales, and they generally let all moves go thru saving shields for greninja, and then they die in like 4 moves to ninetales at the end sometimes with all shields up still. Like you said, you can hard hunt it and not sacrifice the team for non greninja opponents
Graninja is a fun pokemon but we also have to be honest.
I admittedly lost using a charmer against Greninja (don’t remember the energy situation) but when I tried it out myself, I didn’t get very far…
The creators I follow have simply hyped the fun that this mon is to use. They have acknowledged its frailty but bigged up the fun factor. An important attribute not covered by pvpoke.
Running my XL whimsicott or XL Dedenne has been great these last couple days. Between poliwrath and greninja, oh man, decimated.
Haven't really used it in Great league, but on the right team it is absurdly fun to use in Ultra. Will be better when it isn't being hunted because it is so new.
People run a lot of Grass and Charm now to halt that Greninja. You see it everywhere. Good thing about Greninja is that it makes Charizard disappear somewhat already out of the meta.
I noticed the same thing battling alot of them. With fast move pressure you can throw low cost resisted moves at it and either take it out or grab shields. I have been swept a couple times but I'd say I probably have a 80% win percentage against Greninja teams. GBL and UL
I’ve been playing DD/Obs/Poliwrath(s). Triple counter meme, doing oddly well because of the meta shift/CD move for greninja. Shadow poliwrath deletes greninja
Steranka's comment makes me wonder if I should even play/invest in the Catch Cup.
And yes, Greninja is better in the UL than in the GL.
Conflicted – I love using glassy Pokémon but hate using something everyone else is using!
I will say that outside of pvp, a spammy pokemon like this can make otherwise tough rocket leaders a breeze with taking shields quickly and stunlocking them
Thank you for the honest take. Greninja is a lot more useful in the Ultra League, and my alt account at a lower rank is pulling its weight. Surely at higher ranks, it's merely a niche pick and definitely needs shields to succeed. Night Slash boost is useful too.
Just a few things. You creators are running ninja in Gl. Greninja is way better in UL. Defense D umbreon and greninja 3 straight sets with this team always saved 2 shields. Stopping with the garbage GL
Faced many greninjas in the great league this week. Haven't lost to a single one lol
I agree with a lot of the comments here. It seems to have better play in UL. It absolutely clowns Giratinas. Venusaur lead with Ninja and Giratina in the back has been great. Even beat a double charmer team because of a night slash boost into a Hydro.
Have you tried it with Registeel?
I’ve had good success with Regi as the safe and Altaria in the lead and saving shields in the back with Greninja.
I’ve also had a ALOT of play with Gliscor in the lead and Regi as the swap…this line has surprisingly good coverage on the meta and it’s difficult for your opponent to read your Greninja in the back.
Imo it feels a lot like playing with todegenaru; charges surprisingly fast, hits like a truck, gets disintegrated by counter.
The bulk it has in the ultra league makes up for most of the weakness you speak of here. Not all of it, but the extra bulk shows. Went from 3050 to 2800 using it in the great league for 3 days. Made it all back the next 2 in ultra. Ultra league seems like where it will work well as intended.

I like you Dan and your content been watching for a while, but to keep it 1000% I feel like you made this video to trash ninja and other content creators. You as well as everyone else in your comments know it belongs and is better in UL and that’s just facts. Stop doing GL only with a mon who doesn’t belong there cause it thrashes like a slave master in UL
