If they end up doing real online multiplayer and not a side thing, I’d love a mode where everyone can traverse the level at their own pace. Maybe working together to get the collectibles for each level or a race to the finish. I’m tired of every player having to fight over the same camera.

I hope it has a battle Royale mode of 2d side scrolling. Different maps for each match. 100 players, all trying to simultaneously bonk each other on the head, shoot fireballs at each other, toss shells, get massive, get mini, get invincible, etc. The fight goes on until only 1 remains. All the hidden sections make for great hiding places, as well as clouds and vines, if you are trying to just hold out until the end.
That is significant news; I know a lot of people who have been seeing they will refuse to buy Mario Wonder if there is no online multiplayer functionality.
As someone who has never viewed the 2D Mario games as a online game, I don’t really care if the game has online features or not. I want to play multiplayer on a 2d Mario game, I will play couch co-op.
But it’s interesting to see how many people are adamant that Mario Wonder should have online play. And if it does, then that would be great news.

3D World Switch had full online co-op, so I think its safe to assume that we will finally get an online 2D Mario game.
With that statement and the fact that the last 9 years or so we have had a nintendo direct in September then it’s a fact that once again we will have a direct in September.
So they are finally making a sidewinder game for the Switch?
That’s amazing. I loved New Super Mario Bros 1 & 2 on Wii (U), as I like 2-D games with stages way more than open world like Odyssey.
