Basically, another PR senseless response. If facial or lip-sync actually mattered for dubs, a lot of Japanese games would have never been dubbed.

I understand if the dub of Eternal Wings was so bad that they needed to re-dub the whole thing but there wasn’t money. Origins’ dub was really great though, such a shame to lose it….

I’m actually doubting if I should get this after seeing how Tales of Symphonia ended up, it looks very low budget and America isn’t even getting a physical release.

Lmao bullshit. They just didn’t want to deal with any extra effort. I was interested in this when it was first announced, but at this point I’ll just find a way to play the originals.

I’ve never played these games and don’t really care about it missing English voice acting, so I will get the collection, but I can understand why some people gets upset.

Game is a hard pass with no dub personally. I’ll still hope it’s done well for others, but I just don’t want to play in a language I don’t understand when there is a version already available to me that is perfectly understandable.

What about japanese dub? There will be having any?🤔

  6. UnknownHeroic

Uffff for a moment i was thinking it was no JP voices.

  7. Starsky65

Sounds like they didn’t want to deal with extra effort.

Bandai being lazy as hell with their remasters.

I adore Baten Kaitos. The first game is in my top 5 RPGs of all time. I couldn’t care less about the voice acting.

they aren’t even making a physical version for North America so what would you expect

Reminds of FF7 Remake and Rebirth having both English and Japanese dubbing and other European languages but Reunion (the Crisis Core remake) only having English and Japanese dubbing.

I mean it sucks, but not having a game dubbed in my language never really bothered me personally.

Edit : Wait hold on the old version did have English voice acting but the remaster won’t? In that case yeah I understand how people would be upset. In that case it reminds me of the versions of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 on anything that’s not the PS2. The original versions had French, German and Spanish (KH2 only) dubbing in addition to English, but the remasters moving forward only had English.

Yeah I understand it really sucks in that case.

Another half assed port. What a surprise.

They thought they could win points by saying “Hey we removed the bad dub!”, but in reality its “We’re too lazy!”

I think this “remaster” was done solely to rip the trademark away from Nintendo and MonolithSoft.

RIP, the English VO was bad but in a good way.

That’s all bullshit. I grew up with the first two games, I still own them on GameCube. The reason they’re removing them is because the first games voice acting is so bad it legit sounds like it was recorded with two cans and a string under an overpass.

The second game however, has great voice acting. They’re just throwing the baby out with the bathwater to keep it consistent. Its a pretty low effort port all things considered.

That being said, I think it’s still worth it to pick them up, as they’re both relatively rare games and have become pricey, even by the inflated GameCube price standards of today. This is the only way to reasonably play them in an official capacity.

If you want to emulate them, more power to you, emulation is a fantastic way to preserve, mod, and enjoy games that you otherwise would never be able to play, but be aware the second game has some issues when emulated that can really screw it all up about halfway through.

You could also not be cheap fucks and re-record an english dub. Its part of the reason i decided to cancel my preorder.

  18. I remember the original dub being pretty bad and sounding like it was coming through a tin can. For a somewhat budget release at $50 (rather than $60 or $70) I’m not surprised they didn’t redo the dub and I think including the old dub would have also garnered a ton of complaints. Publishers today understand that fewer gamers are turned off by Japanese audio (and many more prefer it today than they did 20 years ago).

  19. megasean3000

Was there voice acting in the original?

  20. ChuyMasta

This sucks. I’ll get the physical edition and emulate the original GC releases.

    Come on Namco!

  21. -Degaussed-

I want the dub….I grew up with this game, it will feel weird without it

  22. The biggest loss here is Guillo. The double voices sounded awesome in English.

Overall a big bummer. I’m just hoping it doesn’t ruin the remaster for me

  23. cats4life

Even if you’re not interested in playing a JRPG with the English vocal track, it’s still a red flag that there is none. It’s code for the developer believing this won’t have legs in the Western market, so they’re just not going to try.

  24. wckdgrimmz

Basically “we didn’t because we didn’t want to actually put money into re dubbing anything and wanted to squeeze as many extra pennies as we could with minimum effort.” Am I close?

  25. Octopath_Waffler

Cool. I guess I’m turning the voices off. If I’m going to be reading the dialogue anyway, might as well.

  26. FedoraSkeleton

It sounds like they changed the script in some places, so unless they re-recorded it, the VA wouldn’t line up with the script.
