I can’t believe this. Another Code R is one of my favorite games of all time. I am so excited the US gets to experience it as well now.

  2. Pleasant surprise. Hopefully it does well sales wise.

  3. Dave_here

I feel like I’m dreaming. That was one of my favorite games as a kid and one I still think about all the time. Never in a million years did I think I think something like this would happen. They randomly added a sticker of the main character in smash bros so it gave me hope they were doing something but didn’t think they actually would. Wow…

  4. gate_of_steiner85

Oh shit I loved these games on the DS. If we could get a Hotel Dusk/Last Window remake, I’d be over the moon.

  5. Diem-Robo

I don’t think I’ve gasped harder in my life. Trace Memory/Another Code is one of my favorite games of all time, simple and humble as it is. I never see or hear anyone discuss it, so it’s always felt like I’m the only one who really cares for it.

I’m really curious how they’ll remake it for another system, since the DS was so completely central to the original’s gameplay. I also really hope the voice acting is good, and that they don’t change the story too much.

I didn’t like the sequel, though. It felt too padded, and the story wasn’t nearly as good or as nicely focused as the first. And it retroactively complicated the tight narrative of the first. I guess I’ll give it another play to see how they’ve updated it, perhaps.

Still shocked. CING went defunct about a decade ago, and this series usually existed in the shadow of Hotel Dusk, which isn’t much less niche, so I can’t believe this is happening.

  6. bunnanamilkshake

I almost squealed when I saw this one. I frickin’ loved Trace Memory!

  7. silly_puffin

I was literally just thinking about this game

  8. Never played the originals, but was always interested. Nice!

  9. Triskiller

I can’t believe how excited I am for this. I loved Another Code on the DS, but I never really knew how much until I saw this trailer. Look forward to playing this next year!

  10. KidFlashDragon

The gasp I let out when this came up. The nostalgia is high, a day one for me for sure

  11. Superconge

Maybe the best direct announcement like, ever? Fuck me this is amazing.

  12. Mushroomman642

I’ve never even heard of this game or series, but something about it looks really compelling. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on it.

  13. Man this got the biggest *what the fuck* outta me. I fully expected this to be an incredibly dead franchise. It didn’t sell that well, right? I bought it used from GameStop 5 years ago for like $5.

…now if we can get Hotel Dusk as well…

  14. stubyourtoenailnow

This reminds me a lot of professor Layton but in a 3d environment and a different aesthetic, so I’ll check it out.

  15. dancelordzuko

Never in a million years did I expect Trace Memory to be revived from the dead. The original was my first DS game and I adored it. Wonder how they’ll change the gameplay since a lot of it was dependent on DS tech.

Hopefully Hotel Dusk will also get its chance to live again. For now though, this was my personal highlight of the Direct.

  16. cooldanch

Trace Memory is a top 1 DS game, this is so so so hype

  17. Cerote2000

I still hope for a fragile dreams remake
Did anyone else that game for the wii?

  18. Efficient-Vacation-2

My favorite game next to Pokemon. I can’t wait and I am excited how they will translate other puzzles that are doable on DS for Switch.

I like it because the game utilizes the features of the console and I JUST CANT WAIT to see how it’s translated!

  19. Out of all dead Nintendo series, Trace Memory is not one I ever expect them to bring back.

  20. GammaPhonic

Aside from that stupid trombone game that had me in stitches, this was probably the highlight of the direct for me. It looks like the kind of remake that really lives up to the potential that the original just missed out on.

  21. SpikeRosered

That fucking puzzles which you had to physically close the DS to complete had me stumped as a kid!

One of my first DS games. Will totes get this.

  22. brzzcode

I never thought Nintendo would go back to Another Code and remake it, holy shit. This remake looks amazing, I wonder who’s developing and how it came to fruition

  23. radiantstark

I nearly teared up watching the trailer, this was probably my first adventure game and one of the first I played on the DS and it was amazing. Can’t wait to experience it again and the sequel for the first time

  24. I never expected Nintendo to ever release these games again but it’s a welcome surprise.

  25. Never played this but very interesting. Somehow it gives me some Ghost Trick vibes, I don’t know why.

  26. celestier

I can’t believe this holy shit I thought I was the only one who ever even heard of this game!! No one else had ever even heard of it. I’m so excited now we just need a hotel dusk remake

  27. jacobs0n

i loved another code on the DS. can’t wait to try this

hoping hotel dusk also gets some love, one of my favorite games

  28. SeiyaTempest

I never expected Another Code to return after Cing went bankrupt eons ago, but I’m glad this obscure DS gem is being remade for the Switch.

Now if only they could bring back Kyle Hyde… 🙏

  29. riddlemore

I’m so hyped for this. I **loved** Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk Room 215.

  30. popfgezy

See this is the kind of thing I love from Nintendo that Sony just doesn’t do anymore.

I love reading about people getting hype over a niche classic game I’ve never heard of before. Nintendo will sprinkle in announcements like this all the time in their directs.

Sony used to do this, but now they mainly just focus on AAAA/live service games. Imo, it’s game announcements like this that really give the system life. Excited to try it when it comes out!

  31. Very surprised to see this series come back. 2005 the first game came out.. wow. I never knew it had a sequel on the Wii.

If remember right this game had a puzzle where you utlized the dual screens in a certain way, >!you had to close it part way to see the reflection of one screen in the other!<. I wonder how they’ll update that.

  32. _NiceWhileItLasted

    Nani the fuck?!

Does this mean there’s hope for the return of Kyle Hyde??

  33. NightwaverOwO

i hope the revival of another code means that hotel dusk will also return

  34. Enrichus

I played the original DS game but sold it after finishing it. It didn’t have much replay value at the time, but I enjoyed it. Never got to play the sequel, and as this have both then it is absolutely worth it!

The presentation is greatly improved and I’m sure this will be another hidden gem on the Switch. I’m definitely returning for Another Playthrough.

  35. Jandolino

One of my favorite DS games and one of those games that blew my mind with graphics on a mobile system.

  36. I’m super happy. This was the highlight of the Direct for me. These games were awesome, for them to get remakes on this level of quality even after their original devs went bankrupt is insane. I had lost all hope of ever seeing any Cing IPs come back.

Not only will NA finally get a chance to play the amazing sequel, but it also rekindles my hope that maybe one day we will see the Kyle Hyde series back too.

  37. I am so happy for this! Last year I imported Another Code R from the UK, but have been unable to play it because the Wii is region locked so I ended up going the dolphin route. This version will be even better and a day one purchase from me. It’s now my most anticipated Nintendo release, no lie, I love Cings work.

Now praying for a Hotel Dusk and Last Window remake. And I know beggars can’t be choosers, but if we ever get those games remade, I hope Last Window gets a new translation/localization. I was not “keen” on the British localization.

  38. Lightmanone

Guys, i don’t know if this was mentioned here already but on the nintendo eshop page it said FULLY VOICED
    NEW PUZZLES
and of course enhanced. I mean
DID YOU SEE THE DS VERSION?! We’re basically getting a whole new game (I am from europe, i already played the second one.. It’s so much bigger and so good too. If you loved the DS version, you are gonna adore the second game!)
And that one is enhanced too

    I AM IN LOVE!

  39. marsalien4

Trace Memory holds a very special place in my heart. I played it over and over again as a kid, it was my favorite game. I was always upset that we didn’t get the sequel. Imagine my surprise when I saw this today, it felt so crazy to see a remake of my favorite game, with so much nostalgia, but then–the sequel too? Craziest part is that it’s releasing on my birthday. Felt like a touch of destiny! Haha

  40. No-Tree-5557

Another code r was one of the random games my dad cracked on the wii for me, when I was a kid, probably like 10 years ago… without much conviction I started it, and I don’t regret it. i love this game sooo much and I can’t believe we are getting this ! Those games deserves more recognition

  41. MrBanballow

I was in the break room at work this morning when this was announced. People were asking if I was all right. I’m good. I’m very, very good.

The first game, Trace Memory, is probably at the top of my list of games for the DS. Ranks up there as one of my favorites regardless of system, to be honest.

Was super excited when the sequel was announced. Changed my signature over at GameFAQs, saying I wouldn’t change it until Another Code R was announced for the US. That was October 8, 2008. Was extremely disappointed that Nintendo never released it over here. I mean… I made due with an imported copy of the game and a copy of Smash Bros, but I shouldn’t have had to go that far.

I felt like that guy out of that Junji Ito manga, climbing into a hole. **”It was made for me! Th- This is my Direct!”**

Nintendo Directs frequently surprise me (Live a Live remaster shook me to my core) but this was just surreal.

Please, please, please sell well enough to justify a Hotel Dusk/Last Window re-release. I need Kyle Hyde back in my life.
