When I saw Mewtwo on the screen I figured it was Zorua, but when I went into my journal it says I actually did not catch Mewtwo – in the wild. When I saw Mewtwo it was in the wild and I didn’t catch it. I didn’t think we could find Mewtwo in the wild.

I forgot to put this in the initial post. I was using an autocatcher so that’s why I was curious about this.

It wasn’t a wild encounter dude, that was just your mewtwo deciding he was 110% done and sick of yo shit and just took off into the sunset, sorry you had to find out this way.
It does that. I had Galarian Moltres as my buddy. A Zorua disguised as it was found and ran away. It appeared in my journal as Kantonian Moltres.
That’s insane! I haven’t seen a Mewtwo before yet.
Out of about 60+ and another 20 in trades I still can’t score a 3* Zorua. I’m getting salty af
It’s important to remember that Zorua is known to disguise itself as your current buddy Pokémon. If you have Mewtwo as your buddy, then Zorua will be disguised as a Mewtwo.
So, I guess my question is… Who was your buddy Pokémon, at the time of this occurrence?
It was zorua.
Zorua takes the shape of your buddy or a recent buddy. In this case it is quite obvious as there are no wild Mewtwo’s, certainly not now.
The point is, you technically don’t know this until you catch it and get the ‘oh…?’ text. Until then it goes as equal to your buddy. So if you don’t catch it, it gets put in the journal like that.
In the case of a Mewtwo it’s quite like playing peekaboo with a baby: we all know what it is. I had a feebas that needed to be evolved for a research task and needed to grind about 400 km in candies. I can honestly tell that I cursed Zorua quite a few times back then.
Whatever the case, the mystery thickens. I would suggest calling Scooby and the game but Zorua would probably disguise itself as that popular Great Dane. 🐶

Mewtwo is back?
I saw someone in my friends list catch a mewtwo. It wasnt a zorua. And it was in the wild.
I would reach out to Niantic ti see if they can give you a master ball for the next catch. Or something to compensate this lost
I had a Galarian Articuno pop up with my daily adventure incense. I had a master ball but I’m saving it. It fled.
